sfuller's RECommendations
A rather decrepit window captures the afternoon sunset within its glass.
I've been trying to do a remix of Shine for some time now; but I could never piece together the ideas in my head. They were just like scattered pieces of jigsaw puzzles. Basically, I wanted to explore the idea of shining as a form of awakening.
I have this line in my head that I would hear over and over again, " Shine, so I can see you. Shine, so I can see you". In my mind, this almost sounds like an appeal from one person to another to shine like a human beacon so they, we, you & I could find each other. I tried to write a poem about this too. It's half finished, and it's sucky, so I went back to this record instead and tried to finish what I started. This is experimental. I kinda literally dissected Channing's beautiful original Shine record. I hope that's okay:)

derived from a b/w illustration in Life magazine, attributed to Catherine J. Barnes, available in dover publication "864 Humorous Cuts from the 20s & 30s".
Took the advice of two gentlemen - Matt Conley & Lawrie Brewster - on weakening the music track (by the musique extraordinaire, Phonotek) on the original record I remixed (http://hitrecord.org/records/17320), and made Jolynne's lovely voice louder; so, I hope this is better!
colorized version of a copyright-free b/w illustration from Punch, c.1850, available in dover's "Humorous Victorian Spot Illustrations"
glub glub!
glub glub!
Was in a collage-y mood this week it seems. It started out as something different, then grew to something else, and it eventually went all Wonderland-y.
This went through many variations - including a vintage one - but I decided to stay on the lighter side.

i love words. verbal doodling. Strange as it may seem; this is inspired by Jenyffer.maria's little scribbling on her sketch. It just reminded me of how much I love writing & how words allow us to communicate with each other. Hence this thing-of-a-jigger. Couldn't think of a better title. So I went with the obvious! *cheesy grin* i love words & how I am in it. i love how it feels on my skin. i love the collisions of dipthongs that sweetly glide off of your tongue. & how an enjambment forces you to pause for breath. i adore the conjugations of subject and verbs that have no business being together. i love breaking the rules of grammar. it makes me feel dangerous. i love the Ménage à trois of ellipses. & how the president of Capitalization stands on guard. i have a penchant for semicolons; (this one I shall not explain.) i love how an apostrophe makes eye contact. and how an ampersand creates a you&me. i love the silence of words too. it lets me know you're listening. i love the scent of words. it hints of nostalgia! Black and white prints. Make me think of your mother. Comic Sans will always be mine. this is how we first met. but most of all I love this. Just this... nothing but this... Amen. |
