Independence means being able to watch an arthouse film by yourself when none of your friends want to. No need to have parents buy you a ticket (especially when it's R-rated). No need to compromise with a significant other. No government censorship (as far as I know). That's my stance on Independence.
Watching a movie by yourself doesn't make you a loser. It makes you independent. :p
