There are hundreds of really strange superstitions from around the world...
for example in Turkey:
if you chew gum at night, it is believed that you are actually chewing on the flesh of the dead.
if you spill water on your t-shirt while doing the dishes, you will marry a drunk.
and my favorite one,
if a pregant woman craves fish and doesn't eat it, her baby will be born with the head of a fish.
I personally think this would be awesome to do. there are soooo many, however simple or plain ridiculous, that can be made in to short stories, cartoons, horror thriller films, you name it! we could even make up some new ones, be as dark as you like.
Have you ever been labelled?
Hell, we all have.
After all, our leader is that kid from Third Rock from the Sun...he can't possibly be a grown-up with his own ideas and shit like that. Take control of his own career?...Ha! Start a collaborative media company?...no way! Turn it into a variety TV series?...shut up!
We are: shy, awkward, funny, sexy, nerdy, a jock, a cheerleader, a mother, a banker, Democrat, Republican, Independent, Christian, Atheist, loser, winner...he's the smart one; she's the pretty one...he can't write, she can't draw, you can't sing, she sings like a bird...on and on and on...
Did you get a good label? A bad label? Both?
Who labelled you?
Do you label yourself? Yeah.
Do you label others? Yeah.
Do you have a nickname? I was "Little Jimmy" until my sophomore year in high school...then I grew from 5'4" to 6' in a year's time. Ruined my label...some people still haven't gotten over it.
I see a cold open ala High Noon...2 gunslingers out in the street...with label guns in their holsters. Who's the fastest draw? Labelled you first...I win!
But here's the thing about HitRECord...it breaks down barriers and rips off labels.
Ouch!...it hurts so good.
What frightens you? (this can be spooky stuff, but also terryfying things (tragedies), nightmares etc.)
The documentary could focus on the source of fear, in particular irrational fear such as fear of spiders etc.
Matt started the remix theatre collab ages ago which is full of horror related records, so we would already have a lot to work with in regards to interstitals, bumpers or even short films http://www.hitrecord.org/collaborations/1526
I think we all know what it means to lose something.
sometimes elation and other positive reactions, depending on the situation.
I think the theme of loss is a versatile one. It can be about objects, life, and more abstract forms of loss. Can you lose what you never had in the first place? I'm probably missing other interpretations...
Apologies if someone already covered this theme!
