Hello, RegularJOE here. HITRECORD is an open collaborative production company, and this website is where we make things together.
Writers, musicians, filmmakers, video editors, animators, illustrators, photographers, photo-shoppers... Wanna work with us?
I direct our community in a variety of collaborations. When one of our productions makes money, we split the profits 50/50 between the company and the contributing artists.

[warning: this is going to be the longest preface to a collab ever] "we are led to believe a lie when we see with and not through the eye, which was born in a night to perish in a night, while your soul slept in beams of light." -William Blake
the beauty of creating myths is the beauty of seeking and creating our own interpretations of our universe, instead of submitting to pre-conceived definitions. in the material world we see everything as separate to us, individual objects like streetlights and chairs and pebbles intellectually broken down into separate symbols. we no longer see everything on fire.. everything as shapes and colours all the same as each other.. all connected. kinda like babies do.
this powerful belief in the difference between us is simultaneously creating and perceiving a divided world.. and the blind ignorance of our connection to each other is the reason, i think, that we are living in critical times. it's a crisis of communication and separation. perceiving everything and everyone else as something separate to us, breaking off into [sub]conscious factions and clashing.
the word myth has had the unfortunate displeasure of being defined as absolute fiction over the years. humans attach symbols to absolutely everything, and i think some have had so much belief devoted to them that they have crystallised.. become what people like to call concrete truth. i don't subscribe to the notion of objective truth. i think that outside the one eternal truth we are having a dual experience which can only be best described as an imaginary experience. the symbols we use in our aristotelian mode of consciousness.. are just stories that have been allowed to set. we are made to believe in the absolute truth of a physical world.. a 'real' world. a universe made of atoms. this is just as deluded as believing in any mythology as absolute truth.. or absolute fiction. i think in actuality the particles that make up this 'real' world are just waves of possibilities that have formed a pattern through habit.
imagine telling yourself a story.. but a story so deep and so detailed, spoken with such conviction and belief and drama that you become the characters you are making up. you are so sucked into your own story.. your own magnificent game.. that for a while you forget you are even telling a story .. you ARE the characters. now imagine this story is like a dream. in your dream you are the monsters and the enemies and the lovers and the friends and objects you interact with. you are even the character of you. the 'real' you is in fact asleep.. creating and perceiving a world of stories, stories which are believed to be 'real' by the characters within the dream.. and the character of you will never snap out of this illusion until s/he realises that s/he and the other characters are all connected under the umbrella of a sleeping consciousness.. the 'real' sleeping you. in realising this connection s/he is able to make the dream a lucid one, where the stories are suddenly not set in stone, but malleable like the shapes inside your eyelids. this is a magical act. this is a creative act. manipulating and rearranging symbols and words and pictures and sounds into new definitions. art is magic is art is magic is art is magic is art
The Hanged Man in the tarot deck sees the world in a new light, with new eyes. eyes that can transcend the boundaries of the material and immaterial world. or what i like to call a new earth and a new heaven. i have a new idea of how we can obtain The Hanged Man perspective, and im hoping it's not actually as stupid as it sounds: we can relieve things of their concrete symbols, by attaching more symbols and more stories to them, more points of view, more perspectives of the same thing. once we see just how many millions of ways there are to perceive a certain thing.. we see it for what it really is.. underneath it all everything is on fire.
anyway this is basically what i've been thinking lately, whilst looking into a lot of ancient creation myths.. and why i think it would be cool to ç®éå†é a new one. sorry for putting you through this [if ur still reading] .. i don't usually like being so straight & unpoetic with my ideas and i certainly don't like to seem like i know what i'm talking about. i am thinking out loud, and i just wanted you to know where i'm coming from with this collab. if it interests you at all id love to hear your story ideas or existing creation myths you like the most. i haven't finished my story yet but i will post the first part and you can add to it if you like but please feel free to post original stories too. maybe we could make lots of creation myths work side by side in one big set of parallels.. even including the one about atoms ; ]

My (ACTUAL) Contribution for City Autopsy.
I guess it's my homage to Ira Glass & This American Life. I tried to give an honest portrayl of my neighborhood.
I'm not sure how I feel about this cut yet. Maybe I'll go back to it and change some words or cut it in half, timewise... i guess i'll wait to see how this collaboration evolves.
PS. what a day of trying to get this uploaded. I feel like it took longer to get the right version on the internet than it did to edit and shoot the thing... pffffffff im spent.
