The dictionary defines a root as the part of a plant that attaches it to the ground or to a support, typically underground, conveying water and nourishment to the rest of the plant via numerous branches and fibers. Although true, this isn't incredibly significant to any of us. We like to think of 'roots' as our origin, our culture, our ethnicity, our heritage. Roots define us. They bring us together, overcoming differences. They help us conquer the everyday obstacles and guide us through. To what? No one really knows. All we know for certain is that without them, we'd all be in for it.
