while working on a REmix of "the prize," i got this riff in my head. so i put prize on hold and worked on this.

sampled a bit of Lava Tornado and another tasy find from GwenInterrupted's trusty loop collection.

Guitar, Bass, Arrangement ~ meeeee

rather than sit around with it, i'm sharing it in its "rough draft" state. or whatever.

i'd love to get someone doing a nice hip hop flow to it. or something of that nature.

tbc.

this is why i hit RECord.

To Robo J's Beat 714
I never made anything quite like this... hope you like it

Lyrics:

No longer stuck in this 9 till 5
duffelbags in, close the trunk
let's drive
Going down the I-95, hit that 714
Press replay, play it once more

My sig other impatiently tapping the cardoor
Can't wait to get there with the one
I adore
Going down the I-95, hit that 714
Press replay, play it once more

Engines revving, some pass us by
I don't care though, just keep my hand close to her side
Going down the I-95, hit that 714
Press replay, play it once more

She's still asleep and I'm starry-eyed
We've finally arrived, I hear the waves collide
She's still asleep and I'm starry-eyed
We've finally arrived, I hear the waves collide

You thought you could outstrip the sunlight

So you wasted away in the blue.

We knew you would have to fall sometime

if you kept telling us what was true.

So we scattered your words

To the scavenging birds

And we left you alone on your hill.

I can still see you there

With your radiant stare

And the ocean you keep with you still.

We asked you to build us a shelter

With the bricks that we threw at your feet.

We asked you to plant us a garden

In a bed full of solid concrete.

You could never be versed

In the way of the hearse

So we gave you the loneliest pill.

And when you spit it back

With a mouth full of Jack

We closed in with a look to the kill.

They rescued the rest of a hymnal

From the pitch and the swell of your name.

It’s always the god-fearing people

Who are waiting to dole out the blame.

I still say that you found

A way back to the ground

But I know that you’re there up above.

I can still hear the sound

Of the wings that we drowned

When you pulled off the veil of our love.

(Wrote this while trying to come up with text for IrmaVep's beautiful image.  A song for everyone with something to say who died before they got a chance to say it. Might need a chorus,  I dunno.)

***UPDATE*** Check out version 2 -> http://hitrecord.org/records/698572

Inspired by ppeppina's beautiful song "Hetki". As soon as I heard this song, I just had to make an animation for it.

Here are ppeppina's lyrics - in Finnish and in English

On elämä kummallista tosiaan - Life is very strange indeed

Täällä yksi yössä laulaa vaan - Here this one is just singing

Vaikka pitäis mennä nukkumaan - Even though it's time to sleep

Mut aika on huijari, pelkkä haamu - But time is a cheater, only a ghost

Tääl voi olla yö, mut tuol jossain on aamu - It might be a night here, but somewhere it's morning

Siellä heräilen parhaillaan - I'm just about to wake up there

Nää sävelet ilmassa soi yksinään - these melodies fly alone in the air

Ei niistä kiinnostu yksikään - and absolutely no one cares

Kuluvat sekunnit mua säestää - the passing seconds are accompaning me

Tää hetki on mun, jo nukkuvat muut - This moment is mine, others already sleep

Talo ja taivas ja piha ja puut - The house and the sky and the yard and the trees

En vois pyytää enempää - I couldn't ask for more

Mut hetken kestää hetki vaan - But a moment lasts only for a moment

Se on ohi ennen kuin huomaatkaan - It's gone before you know it

(1280 x 720 QT Movie)

*Note* The quality of the online streaming doesn't seem too great, but if you download the video you'll see it clearly in 720p :)

Note: This animatic is meant only as such. Only as ideas and guidance, I have ideas far beyond this and I know animators and illustrators will bring their ideas on pacing, scenes and their own style to the table. This was created in an afternoon to help better explain an idea and nothing more. Cheers.

// WANTED //
VOICE OVER ACTORS

  • Older English-gentlemen type (30 years old+)

  • Young English Boy (6-10 year old)

  • Older Cockney Ring-Master (30 years old+)

Picture a pop-up book, with moving parts, but very dark and crooked. Macabre and gothic. Very interested in people's character design. The music is a slightly edited version of Megan Carnes' Waltz of the Freaks - noteably slightly off in the last stanza. Megan is very interested to make an alternative version to this, so we have her on board. If you want to do a reading with the version I have, currently, contact me on Skype - EdwardShallow or send me an email (same name) @gmail.com

ANIMATORS AND ILLUSTRATORS

Preferably this title would be the same person. There's a very consistent feel that I feel needs to be held throughout this, and working with ones own illustrations makes this easier to achieve. So, a primary illustrator and animator for lead characters would work. A secondary set of several illustrators for backgrounds, the crowd, the tent, etc.

Leave a comment or contact me on Skype - EdwardShallow or send me an email (same name) @gmail.com, if you have any questions regarding any of this.

// BEGINNING AND ENDING //

They are thrown over at the moment for place holders and there's a suggestion that currently isn't very clear. The narrator of the story is a Mime/clown, who is telling a story of this circus - folklore, an urban legend, a ghost story, then in the last stanza it's made clear in the line "but everynight that *I* heard, 'welcome ladies and gentlemen'" that he was part of the circus, that's why he knows, but the implication furthermore is that he himself is Dr Sweet-Tooth, and he infiltrates circuses as mimes, clowns, jugglers, so he can kill their ringleader and keep the rest of performers captive (where he's mad and performs surgery on them, because he's a nutjob). What I'm thinking is a flash between both characters, and a wink to the camera as he puts on a very distinstive top hat as he says "Welcome, Ladies and Gentlemen" everyone is like. OMFG! HE'S SWEET-TOOTH AND SHIT. Thank you for reading, and let's get this started in heeaaah.

Hey HITRECORD! Here is version 1 of the collage song that I made with all of your great audio tracks.  It's pretty atmospheric with plenty of room for vocals - so VOCALISTS, RAPPERS, SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS, please add your creative skills!

There are about 30 to 40 pieces of audio in here and I will be resourcing them all shortly.

Thank you so much for having me remix your killer tracks and thanks especially to everyone for such great recommendations on which ones to use!
