Have you ever been told by someone, or told yourself, that you are bad at something artistic? For me, it is drawing. Art classes at school were mandatory until the age of 14 at my school, and in the final year my teacher failed me, even though EVERYONE ELSE in the entire year passed. Her reason? "You have poor artistry." Now, excuse me if you think I'm wrong, but I don't think that artistry is something that can be measured. I may not capture colours like Van Gogh, or get proportions right, but that doesn't mean my art is bad. Its just different. And I think the same thing can go for music-making and other performance arts. (Just to make this clear; technicality can be measured, yes. But not artistry.) SO, what is the point of this, I hear you cry? (or not.) Well, I want us to produce a collaboration of things we think, or have been told we aren't good at, and make it into something beautiful. A video, explaining to people that though people may think you suck at something, someone, somwhere may love what you do. Lets start with a brief outline of what needs to be done: 1. Collaborators: post something that you don't ever do. Think you "suck" at poetry? Write a poem about how that isn't true. Been told you're tone deaf? Compose a piece of music or a song that shows you aren't. You get the idea. Art, music, text, even yourself acting - do something you think you can't do. 2. Video editors (or non-video editors!) combine as much of the collab as possible into a video that expresses how artistry is in the eye (or the ear) of the beholder, NOT something that can be rated or measured. 3. Watch your work, which you may think is rubbish, be turned into something beautiful. I have only recently joined hitRECord, but I am eager to get involved in collaborations with you all. I have exams coming up over the next two weeks, but I would love it if you guys could help this project get off the ground (that is, if you're interested, of course.) I hope we can create something awesome together!
