I knew you wouldn't leave,
and secretly I didn't want you to.

Can an emotion be a best friend?
Can a tear keep you warm?

The wind outside my window sighs,
and I take in that grasp of air I needed.

Realization settles in:
memories rewind themselves:
feelings twist and turn:
heart beats become uneasy.

I have forgotten what it was like
to have to remind myself to breath,
to keep my heart beating,

but I also forgot what it was like to be anesthetized.
                                    I have found that feeling again.
