Text_notecard_shadow_top_left “Long Distance Relationship: based on a mini story by OrigamiArtichoke”

“How much time do we have left?” Little Hand asked softly, feeling the warmth in her heart that she always felt at 12 o’clock.

Big Hand sighed shakily. Then, reluctantly, he shouted, “Second Hand! How much time?!”

“45 seconds!” he answered, his voice faint and distant.

Little Hand bit her lip. “I don’t want to go again. Not again.” She felt her eyes flood with the inevitable tears.

As he listened to his lover sniffle and sniffle, Big Hand said, “We’ll see each other again.”

“In 3,600 seconds after 12,” she wailed. “I can’t stand it anymore.”

“Shh…Let’s not think about that now. Just enjoy this moment.”

They lay there, together, feeling each other’s warmth and love, feeling complete and whole, finally. No one quite understood long distance relationships like the two hands of a clock.

“15 seconds!” Second Hand yelled, his voice closer than before.

“SHUT UP!” Big Hand snapped at him, holding Little Hand tighter to him.

Little Hand began to count down the seconds in her head: fourteen, thirteen, twelve….

“I’ll miss you,” Little Hand whispered. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”

Second Hand’s ticks echoed within the clock, louder than ever.

Suddenly, with two seconds to go, Second Hand stopped ticking. The Hands peered over at him, where he stood just two beats away, still as can be.

“What’s happening?” Second Hand wanted to know, hysterically. “I can’t move!” He tried to scoot forward, but failed.

Big Hand smiled, his heart beating faster and faster. “The battery must’ve broke!”

Little Hand felt a grin stretch across her face. “You mean…I don’t have to leave?”

“No. You don’t have to leave,” he said warmly, tearing up a bit. “You can stay here with me.”
