It's our policy, no child left behind
You can all go back, back to the end of the line
We're molding young minds to our standardized kind
The perfect design to conform and align

From the Common Core to the common corporations
Who needs art? We've got essays and equations
Who needs music? Just forget your aspirations
We're setting the foundation for your standardized vocation

We teach history how we want it to be remembered
Doesn't matter if it's accurate if it fits our agenda
Don't even think about reciting any prayer or scripture
One nation under God, as long as He's out of the picture

Multiple choice, just pick A, B, or C
Your answer determines your future, that we can guarantee
Time's up, books closed, pencils down
School's out, the future is now

(feel free to use any, all, or none of these lyrics with the new "Quality Control" remix by humunkulus and iamemma. i wrote these lyrics at 2am this morning, so they're probably a little random. i haven't had enough sleep to determine if they're any good or convince myself not to post them. however, i have had enough sleep to at least not attempt rapping & recording them myself, ha ha)

i've had this short little melody stuck in my head for a couple days, i thought the first 5 seconds could possibly be useful in a RE: SECRETS bumper or something, or maybe the whole thing couple spark an idea for a new song or could be used as a chorus for the telephone game song or something. i would love to hear more voices singing along with this, preferably in a sort of mean, teasing kid voice. or somebody add some instruments or a beat to it and make me sound cool, ha ha.

Stems available upon request. I'm mostly just lazy and don't want to fool with it unless someone is actually going to use them.

Just the start of an idea for a RE: SCHOOL song :)

180 BPM

Lyrics:

Sit down, don't look, don't turn around
Eyes front, keep both feet on the ground
Mouth shut, don't speak, don't make a sound
Begin, the time starts now

Six hours, glued to a desk
Don't doubt, teacher knows best
No questions 'til after the test
Blend in, behave like all the rest

Standardized tests for standardized minds
Prepare for a future, the standardized kind
Standardized jobs in a standardized world
Get ready boys and girls

What would you do in the dark?
No one can see, there's no need to hide
What would you do in the dark?
Safe from the light, no more bright eyes can find you

Would you find the courage to reach out for her hand?
Pull her close and kiss her for the first time like a man
Would she finally be comfortable in her skin
If the dark could hide all her imperfections

Would you stand on a stage?
And finally stop being afraid?
Would you stand tall and sing your heart out?
How about now?

What would you do in the dark?
What could you say in the dark?
Who would you be in the dark?
What would you do in the dark?

Would you tell the truth?
That you don't love her anymore
Would she finally let the tears stream down
As soon as she closes the door

Would you take a life
If it meant saving your own?
No one said it was wrong, you didn't know
Well now you know

What would you do in the dark?
What could you say in the dark?
Who would you be in the dark?
What would you do in the dark?
What would you do in the dark?
What would you do in the dark?

I finally finished writing the song I've been working on, but I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to record it, hopefully soon. I thought I'd upload the lyrics for now in case they spark any ideas for anyone :) Usually when I think of the dark, I think of something scary or unsafe, but I really like the idea that the dark can also be a good thing that can sometimes make scary things a little less frightening.

What would you do in the dark that you wouldn't have the courage to do in the light?

I'm writing a song and looking for inspiration for the extra verses! Please upload your responses as a record so that I can resource them if I'm able to fit them into the song lyrics! Thanks <3

the audio on this is terrible, but Millie wanted so desperately to do what mommy was doing, so here's some random kid footage that could possibly be used for something somewhere

please forgive me for looking like an idiot, i have no clue how to play the washboard, especially a silly fake craft one of my mom's, plus i saw an alligator and snake minutes before recording this and was kinda scared for my life, ha ha! if bird & insect-free audio is needed, let me know and i'll re-record the audio indoors separately :)

side note: i'm not really sure where i'd even put this in the song, i just tried to play along with the beat a little while until i was scared by a bee, ha ha. cut, paste, or loop as needed ^_^

Dear Millie, I have a gift for you
Something my mama gave me a long time ago, so you
so one day you'd have it too
Something to cherish, something only we know

Just a little family secret
I'll tell you if you'll keep it
Something magic we can do
Something special, me and you

We can wear our memories
On our faces
Spotted cheeks for
All the places
We've been together
We'll keep them forever
Freckled memories

So the next time, next time someone asks you
Where your freckles are from, you say
Say they're from you mother
And she got them from her mom
This one's from that summer you were with me
we spent in Mississippi
Or that day filled with sprinklers and laughter and singing

We can wear our memories
On our faces
Spotted cheeks for
All the places
We've been together
We'll keep them forever
Freckled memories

(currently writing a song in the backseat of my parents' car riding with my kids from Atlanta to Mississippi, I'm planning to record it sometime this week so I thought I'd upload the lyrics I've written so far in case anyone has more ideas to add!)
