Today in World History, my teacher showed us this documentary about why the Muslims have so much resentment towards the United States. Well, first of all, I am aware that the reporter was an American & though at some parts it seemed that he was defensive about some issues. This documentary ( I have no clue what it’s called ) was not as bias as I thought it would be. Anyway, the main reasons that caused the resentment were: Historical oppression, Stereotyping and lastly, they felt that the United States has a lot of power & it’s not for their advantage. Historical Oppression was resulted right after the WW2. Great Britain & the US ‘created’ Israel mainly for the Jews to live in. Obviously, this was after the holocaust. The problem was that Israel was formerly a part of the Palestine. By creating this territory, all residents that used to own the land, houses & jobs have lost their private property. This would obviously create resentment towards the jews, british & the americans. Or at least, their government. This also resulted to migration to nearby countries which will lead to social conflict because of the different practices & cultures they might have. These countries that they migrated to were also run by dictators. This did not help them at all. Dictators used propaganda to instill nationalism to it’s people. Since most were uneducated then, gullible as they were, they would blindly follow the government orders & work towards violent goals. Even if they didn’t want to, they did not have the voice or civil rights to express how they feel. Dictatorship limited civil rights. Stereotyping: It’s a natural habit. Racism towards the Muslims escalated right after 9/11. What Americans fail to see is that the government have been doing the same to many of their civilians for days .. on end. Muslim extremists were overjoyed that America had experienced a taste of their own medicine. However, Americans did not realize that. Instead, they associate Muslims with Terrorism. You can’t blame the Americans though, most terrorist encounters were caused by Muslim Extremists & the radicals insisted that they did this for their religion and for their people. After 9/11, the United States practically built a wall around them to expel Muslims. This is evident as I had many personal experiences about this. Most of the time, I was the 3rd party and I was not involved, but it was still evident. Stereotyping also led the Americans to think that they are better than the Muslims. A social hierarchy just like Hitler’s perception of inferior races,no? Well that’s just my opinion. Please don’t take it too hard. Anyway, this frustrated them. The educated look up to the Americans because if it’s successes but the respect wasn’t mutual. This might make the muslims feel pathetic, or worthless. As I see it, it’s clearly racism. Also, as humans, all of us strangely have the desire to live life with a purpose, to leave a legacy worth remembering once we’re gone. Do you see how the uneducated result to violence now? From their point of view, violence is the only way to make a point & difference. Hoping that someday it will lead to change. This can easily be stopped. Have faith in humanity. Possible Solution: Right now, Libya, Egypt, is still running under a dictatorship. From the video, I realized that the educated know and wants to overthrow the government. They know it’s up to them to do so but they need an external ‘powerful force’ to guide them. They suggested to the reporter that they would need the United States to act as one and to support them. It will motivate them to overtake the government. Inevitably, this will result to a civil war but I believe that, it’s the necessary sacrifice for a chance of a democratic (& possibly peaceful) society. The solution? For us, the people to simply support that idea. Similar to what I’m doing now. With more support this will motivate them to overtake their government. Once they’re democratic, all is at peace. They would be an Ally to the United States. Hopefully, these 2 nations could make a treaty to enforce long-lasting peace. Maybe they could work together to stop the terrorists. The US could also open it’s borders to them and change the perspective of allowing the Muslims to come in. Making the approach more welcoming instead of the present hostility. This will reduce the resentment & with the Muslims being educated, they could bring good ideas from America back to their cities and make changes there. It would then bring about economical prosperity which will lead to higher standards of living. With the civilians being educated, liberated & capitalistic this could possibly reduce the double standards & racism. Although capitalism has it’s own pros & cons, I’m sure we’ll be able to sort them out later. ^ Please don’t be mistaken,I’m not for or against any party at all. This is just a theory, it might not be as detailed as professionals but I genuinely want peace amongst nations (& the world) so everyone could live in harmony. I don’t have a say or any political power regarding this matter but I do have my voice & with that I hope it’s enough to at least make you understand the situation. If I didn’t well at least I’ve tried and that’s the best I could do right now. Peace is possible if you let it. Question is: Are you willing to take one for the team? |
