(This was inspired by a line from Haus_of_Glitch's Parable of the Sad Soul~ "Sometimes we have to be who we are NOT, in order to fully become who we were truly MEANT TO BE." Thanks Jeremy.)
I am filled with a longing. With an intangible yearning. An untouchable ache. A lovely bittersweet idea that the "more" I'm searching for will soon be mine. I'm praying that my guiding star doesn't supernova and suck my heart into a black hole. Will I be strong enough to face that singularity? Will I be "me" enough to not change? To not twist and turn and pull and bend to fit some shape that is not my own? I am longing for actuality. Longing to wake up and find that my dream has awakened with me and within me. Longing for the day when I don't need that star to guide me I already know the way. Longing for the day when I don't need that star to guide me because the star is inside me. Because I am Already Here. |

Babbish and GillianGoodman are happy parents of little song called Whiskey Picnic. I hope you enjoy my pantomime of the creative birthing process.
I can't believe how long it has taken me to do this considering it's all of 2 minutes long including a fade in & out. Feels like it should be 2 hours!
In my defense, it's my first foray into using After Effects, Premiere & Sound Booth (AE constituting most of the work) with, on average, 1 maybe 2, days a week of working on it…so be charitable ;-)
There are bits of the animation I'm not 100 % satisfied with, the eyes are a little weird…too round I think…hmmm… Other parts here & there could use some work. I don't really quite know what I'm doing when it comes to correct formats etc. Researched best I could but still have so much to learn…ended up doing this in film 4k just because it seemed the safest bet to ensure max possible quality but I'm plagued by doubts about that choice…it looks weird to me.
I really had NO CLUE what I was doing with the audio - but - it was SO much fun! S'okay I suppose - I really love Johnny Clyde's work and think it's perfect for this project. Probably a little too somber for all of Hevn & Urth (I like somber!), a lot of Johnny's work has a Clint Mansell kind of quality to it, in my humble opinion. I'm happy with how most of the music I chose to use ended up working with this, considering I kind of cobbled it together last thing. I so wanted to use the music from "Just a little (more) idea" I did my best extracting the audio from the video and cutting and cleaning it up a bit but it could probably sound better in the right hands. My use of "J.B.M" could be better…might be a little over the top but perhaps someone more skilled could get it right?
All that said, I think I've been fiddling and fussing with this too long already. I've sort of deprived myself of all other Hit Record goings on while devoting my limited spare time to this. Once I've (very carefully) cleaned up the files to remove any un-used clutter I'll zip & upload the works so anyone else who really wants to can play with it. There may be some things in there that could lend themselves well to re-use and re-mixing.
I'm so fond of the Hevn & Urth project & all that's come out of it. Really hope to do more in the future… Enjoy, tell me what you think, & thanks to all of Hit Record for providing the resources, inspiration and motivation to get off (or rather, on) my ass & finally start learning to do things I've wanted to do for so long. Just the act of digging into all this, while sometimes difficult and frustrating, has been so rewarding and opened up new avenues of creative exploration.
Original lyrics by Gillian Goodman, my new favorite poet. Everyone should see how amazing her poems are.
Drive-by Fucker
On the road again,
The trucker’s runnin’ circles round the cities,
He's a simple kinda man,
He likes a girl to look pretty,
He likes his one thick hand on her hip,
One pressed hard against her sweet face--
He's got a sexy sally in every state
Left with her cheek pressed against a cold, silver screen.
He leaves and it gets bad,
She wears the same dress for 4 days straight,
And eats right out the can.
Do you think of me when I’m on the road, she says,
Sure I do, sure do, he says,
And he does, he thinks of them all,
They flash before his eyes like road signs
Haunting him with their sad sappy eyes
Their creamy come-hither thighs.
But he don't run on women,
He runs on diesel and everclear,
On asphalt and landscapes,
Here to Tuscaloosa,
From Detroit down
He's got women all over the map,
He spreads himself pretty thin
And the women, they take it
When their husbands are out
They like something to think about
Like their sweaty ass on the seat of a mac
Clawin’ crop circles in good ole boy back.
After hubby comes home from the races
With dirt and ash and spit on his face
Supper don't get made for a few days
And she tugs at her dress
To cover love marks the trucker made.
She wrings her wrists with his oily bandana-
He always leaves one for the dames,
He keeps a few in the glove box,
He's left one in every state--
He's had Georgia girls suck cock
He's licked Alabama feet,
And she might wonder if there's more like her,
But she don't, she ain't really thinkin’ that deep.
