high res zip file [with separate mp3] - http://hitrecord.org/records/171656

a sort of stream of consciousness-y thing ive been writing lately. i saw this timelapse vid today by bluebudgie and was really inspired to experiment with it. i understand how this might be seen as political or preachy or offensive.. but i honestly dont mean to be any of those things. it is directed at me more than anyone else.

sub-point: the track is an instrumental version of everything is on fire

"Everything is on fire" video, troisième!
I combined Dr. Gory video with wirrow's "coulouring fire" + some other RECords I saved for that project. Of course it's still not finished so please join in.

deeasherself explained love and the hitRECord process beautifully back in January. filmpunk took on the anatomy of a RECord in March.

I've REmixed each of their interpretations of how to explain hitRECord and whittled the description of how a RECord comes together into 30 seconds or so, building on each of their ideas with some of Metaphorest's thoughts on "Morgan M. Morgansen's Date With Destiny" from her SXSW conversation with Jared and Lawrie.

So, here is the commercial-length version of one of the more challenging questions posed by the site: "What does it mean to hitRECord?"

This is the same as http://www.hitrecord.org/records/87452 I just decided to reduce the loudness of the pen scratching because the background noise (aka my air conditioner) was bugging me.

Dr. Gory's record for the vinyl initiative prompted me to write this song. Oddly, it doesn't have anything to do with vinyl. But I think it resonates with his intent for the collab. I feel nostalgic for a time when life was more visceral and less virtual. I tried to capture some of that longing in this song. I wanted to explore how technology is shaping humanity without passing any judgment about it.

This record started with the desk drum circle and evolved really naturally, because for me that collab bridged the gap between the visceral and virtual worlds in a meaningful way. Here, I just tried to be in the gap.

I don't know if it's any good, but my heart went in it.

I wrote some lyrics and sang them over a bass line by Noise Ball called "Treat yourself." I was inspired by "writer's block", "release" & "take a chill pill" (2 of those records I can't find on the new site)

*Kampaign* I don't know if this is something you could get into, but I thought about how much your vocal harmonies could fill this out and make it awesome! I could even send you the Pro Tools file if you were so inclined :)

Here are the lyrics...

When I go to church
I say, “I want to be in movies.”
Then I go to the doctor
because of problems with God.

It's been a long time since I've felt inspired,
Maybe it's the way that my brain is wired,
So I take a pill.

And for writers block
I do a whole lot of nothing
And for breaking up
I go and get my hair cut
what the F%#*?

“To the mystery... I want to surrender.
Just don't humiliate me and I'll be yours forever”
oh... forever is a long time
when your way of life is this divine.

You went to school
to buy a piece of paper
you can learn to be a human being later.

It's been a long time since you've felt inspired,
maybe it's the way our society is wired.

And for writers block
you do a whole lot of nothing
And for breaking up
you go and get your hair cut
what the f*#%?

Treat yourself to a nice hot shower
Contemplate your addiction to power

When you go to church
you say, “make my life into a movie,”
Then you go to the doctor
because of problems with God.
