you know, my mum once told me, "You can't make 'what if' statements." I was constantly reminded that in History, "you have to go on hard facts, not uncertainties, not 'what if's'." but you know what? It encouraged me to question the what if's more and this is what I've got: as I'm sitting here, clothed in a towel - wiping the droplets from the shower off my face - being oh so inspired by Smetana's "Ma Vlast (My Fatherland)" ----yes, I listen to classical music whilst taking a shower -------and yes, a thought struck me like a cliched bolt of lightening. anyway; what if things are completely, entirely, utterly not what it is seemed to be? what if the Narnias, the Hogwarts's, the 's actually existed, but we've yet to physically experience them? what if imagination is based off of truth? what if what we dream of, write about, create in movies belong not only in our brains and hearts, but in the realm of real life too? what if these places were accessible by brain, but voided by the physicality of life - blind to the naked eye? what if there's something more to the masterpieces of sonatas, symphonies, overtures, allegros alike? what if Brahms, Bach, Beethoven transcribed eighth notes and double stops that reflected the unknown - the "magical places" that we've yet to visit physically but what we frequent with our minds' eyes? what if these classical masterpieces were inspired by these subconscious realities? what if classical music was just a simile, metaphor, personification, phantasmic facsimile of the imaginative lands? I mean, I dunno about you, but, I travel constantly to these far off places in the recesses of my mind, every single time I hear the bow hit the string and the wind, the windpipes in harmonious, melodious fashion. Hell, what if these staccatos I'm currently hearin' are allowing this pen to feverishly, violently, ferociously scribble these words on to this paper? what if imagination were synonymous with reality? what kind of cool world would that be?! what if we get a glimpse of what the Hereafter looks like each time we look with our brains and find a world of wonderful, fantastic, blissful magic? Not the dark, sorcerer's witchcraft - but the stuff of goodness, where the impossible is an understatement? what if reality, all this time, was masked with the uncertainties, and REALITY was just an illusion, what's real, ain't real...? what if hmm, would there still be a what if? |
