Scene 1

It is 7:28 am. Charlie is seen from behind making coffee in a black suit that is not horrible, but not the greatest quality either. He is humming to himself (“Nothing Big” by RegularJoe).

Camera cuts to the bedroom, where Rebecca is sleeping. We see the clock tick to 7:30 and the alarm goes off. Rebecca turns over and slams it off.

Camera cuts back to Charlie, who is now reading the paper and drinking his coffee at a kitchen table. He reads the New York Times because the San Francisco Chronicle is crap. Though, he secretly despises the New York Times as well.

Camera cuts back to Rebecca who is out of bed and walking down the hall to the bathroom

Rebecca (yelling from downstairs): Good morning!

Charlie (yelling from upstairs; camera stays on Rebecca): Good morning! Sleep well?

Rebecca (still yelling; camera on Charlie): What?

Charlie (yelling a little louder): Did you sleep well?

Rebecca: Oh, yeah, just fine. You?

Charlie: Fine, fine.

Rebecca (camera on Rebecca): I’m going to take a shower, be out in a bit.

Charlie (camera on Charlie): Yeah, ok, I’m going to work…soon (Charlie hears that Rebecca has already closed the bathroom door by the time he says “soon”)

Camera is behind Rebecca, looking at herself in the mirror. It pans to show her turning on the shower and removing her clothes.

Camera cuts back to Charlie who is washing his coffee cup in the sink, still humming.

Camera cuts to Rebecca, now in the shower, and humming as well (“Nothing Big”)

Camera still in the shower with Rebecca, you hear muffled voice.

Rebecca (yelling): What?

Camera cuts to Charlie.

Charlie (yelling): I’m off to work

Rebecca: Ok, see you later

Charlie: I love you

Rebecca: what?

Charlie: I love you!

Rebecca: I can’t hear you. I will talk to you later.

Camera cuts to Charlie grabbing his keys and exiting the front door.

Camera cuts to Rebecca, still in the shower, humming.

Scene 2

7:45 am. Charlie is seen getting into a green Toyota corolla. Nothing too fancy, but also not a piece of junk. There’s nothing really special about it, other than that it is a manual.

Charlie turns on his ipod. “Nothing Big” begins to play. Charlie leans his head back and closes his eyes for just a moment, then turns the key in the ignition.

Charlie pulls out of the driveway and drives away.

Camera pans to follow Charlie in the car, but then snaps back to the front yard/drive way, where Rebecca is now exiting the front door. The camera follows her to the bus stop, where she waits.

No one approaches her but several people walk by.

The bus arrives and she gets on, pays her fair and walks to a window seat half way down the aisle. She puts her earbuds in and “Nothing Big” is heard playing.

Camera cuts to Charlie (camera from back seat looking forward at Charlie’s right ear and past him to see a string cars stopped in front of him). He’s stuck in traffic. “Nothing Big” still playing in the car. Charlie takes out his cell phone and texts Rebecca:

Camera reads text: Stuck in traffic. This fucking sucks.

Camera cuts to Rebecca on the bus. It zooms in on her phone which lights up through her pocket. She doesn’t see it. She continues listening to “Nothing Big” on her ipod.

Scene 3

9:11 am. Charlie has arrived at the office. He is late. The camera follows him through the front doors of the office building, onto the elevator, and up to the 7th floor. We have no idea what he does. It doesn’t really matter.

The elevator doors open and Charlie exits, leaving the camera behind.

Camera cuts to Rebecca, head on, who is in class. You can hear the professor lecturing, but in muffled gibberish (kind of like the teacher in Charlie Brown). Rebecca blinks twice and the camera cuts back to Charlie, who is just now entering a conference room.

Charlie: Hi, sorry I’m late. What did I miss?

Boss: Oh, Charlie, good you’re here. We were just talking about…

Boss’s voice trails off (obviously only in Charlie’s head) and begins to sound like Rebecca’s professor.

Camera continues to follow Charlie to a seat in the conference room. Charlie takes out his phone under the table to see if Rebecca has texted him back. She has not. He closes his phone and camera cuts to Rebecca.

Rebecca is walking from class to a coffee shop on campus. She takes out her phone and sees Charlie’s text message.

She texts back: Aw, I’m sorry! I love you! (camera is focused on the screen of the phone)

As she is about to press send, she collapses, dropping her phone, which hits the ground and breaks. The camera pulls back to see her crumpled on the ground. Several people rush to her side.

Camera cuts to Charlie, who is now at a desk staring blankly at a computer screen. His phone rings.

Charlie: Hello, this is Charles Jordan.

Voice through phone (female): Hello Mr. Jordan. I have some bad news.

Camera cuts to hospital, where Rebecca is lying, unconscious in a bed. The radio is on, “Nothing Big” is playing. A nurse enters, checks the computer next to Rebecca and leaves again.

Camera cuts to Charlie in his car once again. The ipod begins playing once he turns the car on, but he promptly jams it off.

Camera cuts back to the hospital where Rebecca is now in cardiac arrest. A doctor and two nurses are trying to stabilize her heart rate. Your hear them yelling “clear” (and all that doctor-y stuff) over “Nothing Big” still playing on the radio.

Charlie gets to the hospital. He runs to reception and has some hurried words with the nurse.

Charlie: I’m looking for Rebecca Samson.

Nurse: She’s in room 108, down the hall (pointing), third door on your left.

Charlie runs down the hall. He enter the room as the nurses and doctor are leaving.

Camera pans, following the doctor as she leaves the room, then back into the room where all that is left is Rebecca, covered by a white bed sheet. The radio is still playing “Nothing Big”. Camera pans back to Charlie, zoomed in close to his face. He quietly begins to cry.

Charlie: I love you.

End.
