I was taught to imagine fantastical things, Monsters and magic and dragons with wings. I read all the stories, I sang all the songs, But I wanted more, my own place to belong.
So I dreamed and I dreamed and created a world Where fishes sang sonnets and mountains unfurled. The sky was all rainbows, the grass was bright blue, The moon rose up purple and split into two
Impossible cities with cobblestone streets, Filled up with everyone I want you to meet. The stores never close, the food’s always hot, Wine’s overflowing and the night never stops.
But something keeps nagging the edge of my mind, It’s leeching the colours, destroying the design. Something’s not quite right, in fact it’s all wrong, The dream is unraveling, it’s coming undone.
I startle awake with a terrible sigh, I toss and I turn and I’m starting to cry Something was missing and that would not do, Something was missing, and that something was you.
