Sophie george's Featured RECords
I think my favourite part on any film I have ever worked on is reading the script for the very first time.... As a art director and photographer thats when the ideas, images, colours, lights... all manor of visual awesomeness first flash through your mind... its like being on some kind of aesthetic roller coaster and you cant find a pen quick enough to jot it all down...
Im no writer, nor am i a director but i enjoy the collaborative process of helping them achieve their vision for a film... here are my thoughts, not on your words joe, or the metafictionist's story, but what they look like to me...
I have created a mood board and attached the script in joe's original pdf form with virtual post it notes attached *which can be viewed in acrobat or preview if you are on a mac) all in a handy little zip file... Its just notes, comments and questions on the script from a visual point of view... use as you see fit. Any worries you can get me on killallartists@unwired.com.au
please note the mood baord is not meant for re-use its just a visual refererence to go along with my notes.

Note:
Zip Files are useful for upload and downloading raw resources in native formats like Photoshop, Illustrator, high-quality Video and Audio projects, and batches of stem files.
However:
When downloading, please remember to use caution opening any files downloaded from the internet if you don't recognize the filetype.
This is my first draft of a envelope. As per my notes on the script I see the envelope as a little, well, not used, but well handeled, like the STALKER has spent a lot of time decorating it, holding it, contemplating it etc etc. Its grubby, gosh knows what he has been doing for it to get that way but it is.
The "ROMANTIC DRAWINGS" are very simplistic and concentrated in style, like his hands were shaking whilest he was decorating the envelope... you know when little kids are trying so hard to stay in the lines it gives the texta a almost jolted effect. There is also a heart shaped sticker on the back again in reference to my comments on the script in a previous record (referenced below)
I also felt anything too whimsical or mature would not really look authentic and I think a man in the STALKERS mental state would be thinking simple so i have kept it to just a bunch of different style hearts, with a creepy "I LOVE YOU" hidden in there for good measure - no rainbows or unicorns or starbursts here. He's not a graphic designer or a fine artist (well he could be) but for the most part he's a mentally disturbed dude!
I created the drawings in illustrator so they are not actually on a 'real' envelope, just one that's been aged and stained and then scanned in.
Joe it would be easy enough for your art director to recreate this, the drawings are very basic, they could trace this if it needs to be a exact match to the ones that "lift" off the page. Or I would be happy to create a real PROP if you would like to use it.
Can any of you lovely animators tell me the best format to supply the hearts in for you? vector? .psd? jpg? pdf etc? and I'll upload a zip file of all the elements.
This is my first draft of the brown paper bag. As per my notes on the envelope I see the bag as a little, well, not used, but well handeled, like the STALKER has spent a lot of time decorating it, holding it, contemplating it etc etc.
I felt anything too whimsical or mature would not really look authentic. I think a man in the STALKERS mental state would be thinking simple so i have kept it to just a bunch of different style hearts, with a repititve 'don't tell' through out, almost like he wrote it over and over but was ashamed of it and tried to cover it with hearts.
The "ROMANTIC DRAWINGS" are very simplistic and concentrated in style, like his hands were shaking whilest he was decorating the envelope and bag... I have hidden a few broken hearts through out, I thought that these could turn into quite scary ones with jaws and fangs etc which ill incporporate into my next try...
I created the drawings in illustrator so they are not actually on a 'real' bag I can easily create a real PROP if hitRECorders would like to use it.
Can any of you lovely animators tell me the best format to supply the hearts in for you? vector? .psd? jpg? pdf etc? and I'll upload a zip file of all the elements.
This is my second draft of the brown paper bag, I have just done this in photoshop multiplying and overlaying ROMANTIC DRAWINGS created by the hit record community (Im pretty sure i have credited everyone in the resources but if i missed you let me know) and I added a few of my own in there plus the 'dont tell' line...
I tried to find hearts that had either a innocent appeal or potential to have a scary appeal. I especially love "Hearts in love" by @sweet_honey - so simple its perfect.
To make this as a real life prop i think the collage as a whole would have to be printed on brown paper and made into a brown paper bag, kinda like a yardage print - i have done this before for a short film and is pretty easy (and more importantly fun!) then some of the black lines can be re taced in pen to give it that drawn on feel... at the very least its inspiration for someone who can get their hands on a real paper bag (im in turkey at the moment and paper bags are surprisingly hard to come by!) x

Oh cruel earthly law I hope you were not scared when you collapsed to the floor If only I could once more hear your voice I'd tell you out of all the dads you'd still be my first choice. |

This is my third take on the envelope from blue dildo. I tried to keep the simplistic almost child like drawing effect but this time placed more emphasis on the description "CUTE" from joes first draft script.
There is no method to this envelopes madness, its just random romantic drawings here there and everywhere... kinda like the STALKER was distracted when he was doing it.
I thought the balloons might create a bit of fun for the animaters... floating away off the envelope out into the sky or something to that effect.
This is my second draft of the envelope left on REBECCAS front porch, I have kept the simplistic almost child like drawing style Which is what i envisage the STALKERS drawings to be like however this time around I have kept things a little subtle on the front side, nothing too creepy or suspicious so REBECCA may infact think its for her and not think twice about picking it up...
Its not until you turn it over the ROMANTIC DRAWINGS get a little more obsesive / distrubing... I thought the cameras POV would capture more of the back side than the front side as naturally you would turn the envelope over to open it so have focussed more on this.
I can just picture the STALKER sitting in a dimly lit room with various pens / texta's / markers scattered across the table, nervously drawing a heart before carefully placing the lid back on the texta, picking up another, examining it, removing the lid and drawing another heart... he's so obsessive about getting them just right it kind of turns into a big mess/he doesnt know when to stop...which is a bit of a metephor for his mental state.
Again I have placed the heart sticker on the back as per my notes on joes scripped listed below as a rescource.
All heart elements are vectors I created which I will supply in a zip file once i have finished playing around with the envelopes.
