Ever since I was a little girl I dreamt big.

Big dollhouse, big pony (which, at 4 years old, I didn’t realize would mean a horse) big house, etc. As I grew older, life happened and many dreams of mine had changed.

However, there is still one dream that I hold dearly to my heart: To win an Academy Award. For as long as I can remember I’ve watched the Academy Awards, and year after year, all the talented actors seem to mesmerize me. I get lost in a trance by their smile, their dress, and their confidence as they sparkle on the red carpet like the brightest star in the galaxy.

I am mesmerised when they cry as they accept their Oscar - not caring that they are ruining their make-up. I vividly remember Julia Roberts’ iconic black and white Valentino dress that she wore to the show back in 2001. She looked and felt on top of the world. I remember Halle Berry sobbing her eyes out as she accepted the Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Monsters Ball in 2002. And for some odd reason, I distinctively remember the many ladies George Clooney has escorted down the carpet. I’ve been watching the show for over 15 years now, and, to me, the show never gets old.

Every year, the Academy tries to top what they did the previous year, giving the audience a feast for their eyes. I still feel the magic the show has possessed for over 82 years. I get butterflies in my stomach, my throat gets all tight, and at some points, my eyes start to water tears of happiness.

Happiness because I know these talented winners have worked hard to get to that point.

Happiness because I know they have reached an ultimate point in their career.

Happiness because I know dreams really do come true.
