Just keepin it REEL, y'all.

I'm still relatively new to hitRECord, but it was love at first REC when I joined. I was looking for a place to feel... anything. Then suddenly like a bolt out of the blue, it found me. It came to me when I needed it most. I will be forever grateful.

I don't think any of my RECords are especially fantastic, but these are certainly the ones that mean the most to me on a personal level.

To all of you, again by heart. <3

Here's a poem I wrote/recorded set to a video Inspired by "A Good Sky In Motion" by 12.42 and the beautiful music of lizziemackie.

The poem's text is linked below in the resources as its own text RECord now.

Just a quick word of thanks for the supportive and kind response my vid's received so far. Your hearts have enlivened mine. Thank you!

Hey y'all... So this is a slam I wrote, and I put together this video. The music is "wintersleep violin REmix" by michellek (the original, "wintersleep" is also gorgeous). Most of the clips are from hitRECorders, but two are from http://www.archive.org/

This poem is my attempt at expressing the mixed emotions I feel whenever I hear/read/see something particularly hateful in the news/media.... that awful feeling of believing in freedom of speech/expression but being horrified by some of the things humans are capable of believing and speaking. The only way forward is through love.

The poem's text is now in its own RECord, linked below in the resources!

I moved to Chicago on the 1st with my friend from college, where we joined 5 other graduates from our class of 2010. A week ago, a dear friend of ours came through town on her tour, and we all spent a nearly perfect day just being present with one another.

There's a saying, "blood is thicker than water." I read recently that most people think that it means that the ties of family are the strongest of our lives. What it really means is the blood of the covenant is stronger than the water of the womb--i.e. friendship can be a deeper bond than family. I'm lucky enough to have a fantastic family, but I have always felt that friends are just extra family members that you get to choose.

So this is a glimpse of a day I spent with my family. :)

Until about a week and a half ago, I had never really spent any time experimenting with piano improv. I've written songs before, but I always went in with a plan, a chord structure, or at least an idea. Very rarely have I just sat down and starting playing, not knowing where I was going or what would happen.

I was just playing around on my piano today, when I played two notes that made me suddenly think about relationships. I thought I'd just take a chance and see what may come, so I hit RECord, and played whatever came out as I thought about the course of a relationship, from beginning to end.

That's what this piano variation is for me. It's from the first moment to the last, and all the ups and downs and events in between.

Because every beginning, middle, and end is different for every relationship, I don't want to say anything else about what I was thinking as I played. I'd rather leave it open for you all to define. :)

So that's the overexplanation of my improv piece, "Great Perhaps."
Thanks also to blanKleyKC for the icon!

Again by heart.

Just improvising at the piano this afternoon and decided to RECord it.

There's some background noise, which unfortunately can't be helped. Unless someone wants to kill two rats and two cats for me. Thank goodness they're adorable.

Noisy bastards.

Whenever I finish a really special, thoughtful novel, I am rendered extremely contemplative and, frankly, a little sad. So today, I just wrote down some thoughts going through my head after finishi...

My "how it all began" video.

Books=Gateway to Art

Without fail, every night at about 1:00 a.m., I feel like I need to make some RECord, despite being desperately tired. Hopefully this video is at least semi-coherent.
That being said, I tend to use vocal fillers when I'm extemporizing, not to mention when tiredly winging it... So please excuse the "um"s and "uh"s! :)

Thanks to NessieV for the cool bookshelf icon!
