Redbud1
One of the sure signs Spring weather will not stumble back into Winter in Austin is when the redbud trees get to blooming. Once they get going, the likelihood of a hard freeze is about nil. I'm usually unhappy when my shots aren't fully focused, yet every time I look at this I smile contentedly.

Puppy_out
Object lesson on the evils of alcohol! Animal lovers, take heart! This is a contrived shot. Sam Peckinpaws (the puppy) had been at the office being a silly energetic pooch. Like the toddler he was, he rested fully when his energy was spent. Let's just say there are plenty of beer can props to be found at the office.

Slave_burial_grounds
The weekend before the inauguration I took a train to NYC to do a general walkabout and visit with some family. It was crazy cold for a gal from Texas, but one of the coolest things about the City is its walkability. There was a mention of some sort of monument to the slaves who on the journey to the Americas established when remains were unearthed while digging the site or new city offices. Thankfully the discovery was preserved in place (making a wee bit hard to find) and a lovely, artistic monument was built. It has a tiny footprint, dwarfed by towering office buildings on all sides. Well worth the hunt tho.

I took this peering through the corridor which leads from the ground level where you can still see some of the grave mounds, to the sunken memorial to those who died.

Literary_rb
One of my favorite pictures of my cat, Rosie Bob (RB) back when he was (almost) small enough to hide behind the books on the shelves. He has eclectic tastes.

Still being inspired by this piece, figured I would try a recitation. Still new to fiddling with Garageband, so I couldn't figure out how to overlay more voices in the "NO, NO" part. At least not with my current attention span. This would be a fun animation properly voiced.

ntheon's powerful piece inspired me to attempt a reading using Garageband and some random vocal effect. I kinda like how it turned out, especially since listening to my raw RECorded voice usually makes me cringe.

Text_notecard_shadow_top_left when you stole my heart i thought it discarded like refuse
all this time you've been caring for it tenderly
laughter filling it with joy

knocking away the jagged barnacles
smoothing the jealous nooks and crannies
a dab of polish to delicate threads reaching out to others

wants and needs tucked back into their proper positions
gone the tarnished blemishes clouding the view
clear windows in place where funhouse mirrors pained

yours nearly suffocated from my grip
not realizing in space love thrives best
oblivious to the interconnectedness

i'll free your heart with a kiss and a hug
and cuddle mine you've safely returned
lessons learned and more to come
