CALLING ALL ARTISTS: Let's start creating art exploring the theme of AUTHENTICITY! This is a very prevalent theme in our modern society that has a very broad definition that gets more complex by the day. Can we find a modern definition for this abstract, yet far-reaching, idea?
Some things to consider:
- AUTHENTICITY at its most general refers to the truthfulness of origins, attributions, commitments, sincerity, devotion, and intentions.
- In regards to existentialist philosophy, AUTHENTICITY is in reference to the degree to which one is true to one's own personality, spirit, or character, despite external pressures.
- NOMINAL AUTHENTICITY refers to the correct identification of the author of a work of art, to how closely a performance of a play or piece of music conforms to the author's intention, or to how closely a work of art conforms to an artistic tradition.
- EXPRESSIVE AUTHENTICITY is how much the work possesses original or inherent authority, how much sincerity, genuineness of expression, and moral passion the artist or performer puts into the work.
- The AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCE in art describes the understanding of the important aspects of an artist's work within the context in which the artist intended. Some believe that an authentic experience is impossible unless you were part of the ORIGINAL, intended audience.

Here's how you can contribute to this collaboration:
EVERYONE: RECord yourself talking about your thoughts or stories regarding authenticity. How do you define authenticity for yourself in a world more and more filled with external influences and intellectual recycling?
VIDEO EDITORS: Find contributions from the hitRECord community and begin putting them together into Short Films.
WRITERS: Write your thoughts on authenticity. Essay, prose, poetry. What would it a story look like with an authentic character struggling to remain so in an inauthentic world? Try a 10 minute writing challenge RE: AUTHENTICITY
ANIMATORS: Put a series of images into motion.
ILLUSTRATORS: Draw a picture that depicts, reflects, or represents your idea of authenticity. What does an authentic character look like? An authentic world? And their opposites? Maybe get super literal and draw an AUTHENTIC CITY?
MUSICIANS: Lend a musical, emotional feeling to the idea of authenticity. What is an authentic sound?
OTHER: Pictures, footage of things you believe to be authentic moments. Voice-over artists reading the written contributions.
CURATORS: Compile an Album of the contributions you think are worth checking out.

I'm so stoked to see what we can come up with!
A mock interview I wrote and filmed RE: Authenticity
MOUTH
How do I explain it? Well, it has the most obvious meaning. When I go thrifting, I only buy clothes that were handmade or hand-sewn. I only ever shop for produce at farmer’s markets. Fair trade is a must. Everything I read is page-printed. Nothing digital. When I see something with a Native American pattern on it, I check the tags to make sure it wasn’t manufactured for some mass produced company. It’s just about being aware, consciously, about where some of the stuff you use comes from. And it’s simple. It doesn’t make anything too difficult. Really, if you just thought about living it, for a second, it’s meaning would be completely clear to you.

"Listen, dawg. Sorry about earlier." "Oh, dude. No worries--" "At least now we know, you know?" "Sorry. Who knows? And... what?" "We know now, we ... |

Went on a road trip a couple weeks ago. San Diego - Chicago. Got a lot of footage on my GoPro mounted on my dash. I'll upload all I've got here and compile them in an album. All the footage is without audio, as I had copyrighted music playing in the background.
Here's footage driving into Chicago, IL, and up Lake Shore Dr. It's a pretty long video, and some of it shows me and my buddy rocking out to "Little Talks" and "Home," but there's also a lot of great shots of Downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan.

These are 3 clips together from Cleveland National Forest, just east of San Diego, CA. There's good shots of desert rocks and windmills in here. There's also a portion of me and my buddy goofing off while the song "Nightcall" plays. I apologize.
