Here's v2 :) No difference between v1 and v2 except the audio changes I made (fillers, re-adding cut-off voiceovers etc). Sorry about the quality, I can't edit multiple layers of audio at a time so the video's a result of mulitple edits, hence the diminished quality. Same for the audio as well :( So turn up your headphones!
As always, I'm open for feedback. Do check out the 'no music' version for remixing. Cheers!
Here's the cleaned-up audio track of the vid (http://hitrecord.org/records/645018). Changes include extending the voice-overs that were cut off, and putting fillers in the gaps. For remixing! :) Will upload a version with the music and cleaned-up audio for a more 'complete' record as soon as my internet connection permits.
I'm open to feedback :)
Note: I've decided to clean up the audio track as I've noticed at times it can be quite messy, with voiceovers being cut off at the end. Will upload a separate record with the cleaned-up audio, and another one together with the music.
v2 and a version without music is out!
Tiny Film Re-recs (3):
Here are a couple of selects with time codes that I thought would be good for sampling. I'm not sure how to describe things musically so I went with simple descriptions that spoke to me why that...
G’day from Down Under ;)
This is a part-record, part-request. This is part of something I’m working on but I thought it would be lovely if we could have a vid remix of RECollection going to different parts of the world, being pictured against famous landmarks/airports/backdrops. It’s almost as if it’s a character, travelling around the world bringing joy to various people, hitrecorders and non-hitrecorders alike! I’m hoping to do a vid with this, so vid, picture and voiceover records (e.g. saying ‘hi’ from ‘X’ country, maybe talking about how RECollection as a character has made an impression on you on its travels!) would be very much appreciated :)
PS: Also, if you have ideas on how to develop this further, chime right in!
When I stumbled upon MattConley's Fall Formal Action trailer, and heard Venn's 'reflextion dystopian' not long after, I knew I had to make this!
What transpired after that was my attempt to create an intro much like the 'hR At the Movies' intro. Except it was more 'formal' and not inspired. I had difficulty finding filler clips for the intro that would fit, but maybe you guys could help out with that? :)
Also, I wonder if anyone is up for remixing a HitRECordettes intro? I would really like to see one but I don't know how to go about making one. Any takers? If you haven't heard of the HitRECordettes, check out the collab at this link:
And chigwinkle's HitRECordette-inspired Fall Formal intro here:
I loved May McDonough's 'Riverside' upon watching fajigajiga's animated short 'The Anglerpod'. Inspired by the short and this sultry melody, I had it in my head that if there was ever going to be a music vid for this number, it was gonna be 'noir-y', even though I haven't the faintest what that actually means.
Hence this record -> lust, love, betrayal, and death. Lots of black (it's noir, non?)
I realise for someone pretty green to this (my first fully-edited vid...with plot), I might have been too ambitious with the editing and plot. If it's all a convoluted mess to you (like I suspect it is), please shoot me a comment and I'll add the plot details in the record. That said, I would be so happy if someone used this vid as a springboard to better the storytelling or incorporate other themes.
PS: Did I mention how much I love 'Riverside'? :)
EDIT: I'm going to include the details of the 'plot' under the cut here, but I encourage you to watch the vid without reading it first to form your own interpretation. Once you're done you can compare it to mine and decide on how it can be better remixed (to yours or mine). Now no interpretation is wrong, mine is just one of them :)
Also, do share with me your interpretations! I'd love to hear them!
2 guys walk into a bar. They are attracted to the sultry woman over there (songstress-?). They pursue her. She lets them. She strings both of them along. They eventually find out. One goes on a drunken rampage and eventually dies in a car crash. The other goes into depression and drowns himself. Yup.
It sounds silly when put like that, but the reason why there is an undercurrent of sensuality and danger is because I wanted her to be the femme fatale. The maneater. A dangerous woman who eats men for breakfast. And when I started exploring the idea of predator and prey; the idea that she was consciously manipulating these men...I thought it would be pretty neat if it were a movie and she was watching it with a smirk on her face. Works too if she was actually singing the song the whole time. Hence the last shot, the snippets of rolling film and dusty light streaks throughout the vid, the close-ups of the lips, and instruments/band clips.
I'm aware it's a pretty ambitious plot. It was a challenge coz the resources are all very different. But if you enjoyed it all the same, I'm a happy duck :)
I send you letters I know you'll never receive. But I hope they reach you. Somehow.
