A shadow is an entity
Quite separate from you and me
By day it clings to your two feet
But nightly shadow people meet

Free from their shadowcaster's hold
These shifting shapes are brave and bold
They quest the moonlit earth in troops
(Or solo, if they don't like groups)

And 'cross the plains and seas they drift
But such explorers must be swift
For when the fiery globe returns
Sun’s rays will little shadows burn

So, to your feet, they must retreat
To hide from flaming star’s white heat
Till night falls on the land of men
And shadowfolk can roam again

just thinking of a title for this story/world/project.  this might be pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's exactly it.  I usually have to chew on these things for a while.

but one of my favorite parts of what Attilee and Soupy and everyone have created so far is the caste system.  That different shadows belong to different castes, and there's a class struggle, and social prejudice between the numerous Midlights, the humble Noondays, the regal Longrays and the lowly Gloam.  (I think "Gloam" in plural is cool without an S, but it's just an idea from atlas's story "Away".)

And you gotta admit that the double-entendre between casting a shadow and a caste system is pretty good :o)
