Featured Records
If anyone's interested I can upload a zipped PSD with the layers to make the stars and snow move.
I've got some temp credits on this version... almost picturing it as a sort of poster or book cover or album cover. But perhaps the elements of it could also be used in a sort of animated title treatment at the beginning of the music video?
What do you guys think?
Maybe this could have some copy to the effect of "text, images, audio, video: they're all records here"
Hmmmmm (?)
The bulk of this copy-edit is based on Dan and TeaFaerie's great piece, but I used all sorts of other ideas and sentences that I'll cite below when I get a second.

Narrative Idea: A simple narrative follow a single character through perhaps mundane daily activity (moving through a door, getting in a car, eating, etc.) BUT. There is no single actor or personality. We want to crowd-source everyone to find clips (sorta like the non-music video) and contribute them with time-stamps for the desired scenes activity (e.g. at 3:05 girl sits down). Someone should write a simple script, and then we should all scour our video database for scenes. Every time we cut the narrative is preserved, but the character or personality or individual is fractured. This could have a super-interesting zen interpretation if we do it right. Let's Go! (this collab idea was a collaboration between me and @JME AMUND who just joined us here at Sundance in the REC room.) |

So we need to make posters advertising our events at SXSW! I've included a text record with the necessary specifications, and Jared will add text records soon that have all the necessary copy. We don't have much time to get these done and printed in time, so let's get to it! |

http://hitrecord.org/payment/history
You can get to it from your profile, and it lists all your contributions to RECords in money-making productions along with your share, amount and total. As we add more productions (e.g. SXSW and beyond) they will show up here too and you can track your payment status.
(Also, we’ve dramatically spruced up the autocomplete interface for citing resources on remixes and adding RECords to albums and collaborations. Pretty :)

Alright – let's make things we can touch! As mentioned in the video, we're looking for bold, graphic, or iconic designs without hard rectangle edges. Keep in mind that these are reproduced with a set number of colors (2-4) so full-color photographs aren't ideal. For each design we want two things: 1) A mock-up of the design on a shirt (to show placement, size, and shirt color) 2) High-quality design on its own The high-quality version should be 3300x5100 pixels (or 11x17" at 300dpi). ***UPDATE*** I've made a zipped Photoshop template at this size with a safety box and front & back previews of shirt colors. Note: you can make new shirt colors by duplicating the white shirt and adding a color overlay layer style that uses the "linear burn" blending mode. (Also note: the previews will look better & more realistic if you set your artwork to "linear burn" or another similar blending mode. This makes it look like it's actually printed on the shirt instead of laid over it.) Alright, let's do this!!! |

With the RElease of the new homepage we've added the ability to tag your collaborations with one or more RECord types (video, image, audio, text).
You can choose these when you're REleasing a new Collaboration, but you can (AND SHOULD :) go back and revise your old collaborations to add the types.
That way, they'll show up in the proper category in the new "Collaborate!" tab, and RECorders looking for certain types of collaborations to contribute to can find your project.

Part of 35-part Visual Feature Roadmap we've been working on. Lots and lots of good stuff will be coming over the next year!

We are going to make a small "book" of tiny stories to hand out at the Summer In The City shows coming up. It will just be a small pamphlet, sorta like the MMM Introdictionary Sarah and I and other illustrators made for our SxSW shows ( http://hitrecord.org/records/64206 ). I think it'd be great if each story filled a double-page spread, with the story handwritten on the left and an illustration on the right page. We'll probably have room for only about 10 stories in this small version (but it will be a good first draft for eventually making the real Big Book of Tiny Stories). Anyway, I thought it'd be great if we could start handwriting out some of the best tiny stories – if you have great or interesting handwriting please find your favorite story and write it out and scan it. Or you could also raid aszarkowski's typography collaboration and cut and paste other people's letters to write it out ( http://hitrecord.org/records/90377 ) And, although we already have many beautiful drawings from filmpunk's Big Book collab ( http://hitrecord.org/records/91748 ) and wirrow's original Tiny Stories collab ( http://hitrecord.org/records/56986 ), if you're an illustrator and you have a favorite Tiny Story that hasn't yet been drawn – feel free to submit that too. (oh, also, for the selection process it'd be great if people wanted to make albums of there favorite tiny stores that aren't audio or video... the ones that will work well in a small book) :) |

Some pretty big improvements to the basic hitRECord record card design are in the midst of being developed. Super excited for these!
- Simplified drawer
- Much better use of horizontal space
- More useful header with reduced portrait
- Works elegantly with and without descriptions
- Longer titles
- And, most importantly, BIGGER videos and images!
Posted for the people who were wondering about improvements to the drawer.
This is still in development and will take awhile to deploy, but here's a list of coming features, changes, and improvements.
- removed "re:" button – this was confusing and rarely used (remarks will be written in the conversation itself)
- icons records (for text, audio, video recs) show up and are linked
- full resource and result list (not just top six)
- now in list form with rec type icon rather than thumbnail (this will help speed the whole site up) and let you see at a glance the full resources and results without clicking through (though you can still click through to see the full thumbnail listing as before)
- ability to flag records that may not be original or are suspected of copyright infringement or other TOS violations for moderators to review
- list of albums and collaborations that the record appears in
- list of the author's tags (linked!) plus the ability for the community to add tags (the author can always remove community tags s/he doesn't approve of)
As I said, these are very big changes, particularly to the back-end coding, so don't exactly deprive yourself of oxygen while you wait. But I thought I'd share the design development work since people have been asking for a lot of these features and we've been listening!
One more teaser preview of the coming development work.
- The remark field is moved out of the drawer and to the top of the conversation window
- ability to subscribe (!) to threads [and then get notification badges of new messages on the Conversation page
- sorting toggles for comments
- ability to only view remarks (filter out results and recommendations) to just read the pure conversation.
Again, no breath-holding... but this stuff is indeed coming!

Here's one mock-up of what that might be like.
:)
A new font I've been working on. You can download the semi-beta-ish version here.
- A Little Song On My New Gretsch
Friday Night at The Made Shop
Finishing up the 3rd and pre-final draft of the hitRECord RECollection anthology book with a little bit of help from my friends (Mr. Lebowski & Rye).
Final press file due in Iceland on Monday. It’s gonna be good. Very good.
Checking final hard proofs all the way from Iceland and specifying final cover fabric and foil stamping colors for hitRECord's RECollection Volume 1 packaging!
- My New Blues Riff
REMIX IT, YO!
I apologize for not getting this up earlier — apparently whatever bug on the site that was affecting videos on Friday and Saturday also wouldn't let me upload large ZIP files. But the bug is fixed and I got this up.
Sorry to everyone who already started working and had to rebuild all this stuff yourselves :(
File Size:
59.2 MB
Note:
Zip Files are useful for upload and downloading raw resources in native formats like Photoshop, Illustrator, high-quality Video and Audio projects, and batches of stem files.
However:
When downloading, please remember to use caution opening any files downloaded from the internet if you don't recognize the filetype.
Nullam risus magna, ornare vitae varius eget, scelerisque a libero. Morbi eu porttitor ipsum. Nullam lorem nisi, posuere quis volutpat eget, luctus nec massa. Sed fringilla consequat velit a porta. Pellentesque sed lectus.
After four rounds of cover foil stamping mock-up proofs from the printers I think we've finally settled on all the right materials, finishes, and colors. It's gonna be sexy.
Just wanted to see this in black and white with a bit of texture...
Exciting news everyone! As hitRECord continues to expand so does The Made Shop. And my roll as hitRECord's Creative Director is growing and taking on The Made Shop with it!
Come meet the staff. Kim, whom I'm sure some of you know is our Manager and nothing would ever get done without her.
And I want to introduce Adam our new new Project Designer and a serious drummer! He is doing a lot of front end coding for hitREcord, making it all look pretty with new features and what not. Plus he will be acting as a Resident Curator as well, so look out for him, his hitRECord name is acb.
This is not only great for The Made Shop but it is also really going to be a huge improvement for hitRECord! Updates to the site and overall design are going to be happening a lot more frequently now and I had to share!
Thanks.
