Text_notecard_shadow_top_left cool beans. mmhmm. dig it. I could not find jack-doodly-squat on here without tags AND categories in SEARCH. I would also love to see the following added for the uploader to enter and the searcher to find: Content/Subject Matter.

Ok, now I'm gonna say something that some may take as a criticism of HR. It is NOT a criticism, it is simply stating an unfortunate mathematical FACT of our otherwise perfect and amazing Heart System. But don't get me wrong, I've stuck by hitRECord for almost FOUR YEARS now so I am NOT just bringing this up just to bitch about it. The opposite actually. Marke's new addition to the Search system has given me an idea of a way to balance out the mathematical imbalance that makes it harder for newcomers to get attention for their Records (at first) and for all of us to feel like we have seen/heard/watched ALL of the new Records that may be of interest to us.

Because the more DIRECTLY and quickly a new Record is delivered to the attention of the hitRECorder's who are the most interested in it's Keywords, CONTENT/SUBJECT MATTER, Creator, and Record Type - the faster and MORE ways that new Record will be REMIXED!

So I am simply trying to suggest a way to improve the technical functionality of the VERY awesome Search and Recommend features we already have on this amazingly foward-thinking playground for the mind. Unfortunately, to effectively make my point, (I used to write Instructions for the Developers on Software Builds.) unforunately, I must point out the imbalance that has inspired this suggestion for a solution of how to best connect newly uploaded REcords with the hitRECorders most likely to be inspired to REmix them. Thus increasing productivity, creativity, inspiration and a satisfying interaction for all. SO:

There's just so much here! SO, so many Records! I cannot possibly get through them all. Not even with the aid of our Lovely Librarian. And I just KNOW there are Records on here that would inspire me in some new and amazing way - but I haven't seen them and I am not sure what to SEARCH for to find them. There are some hitRECorders with similar taste to mine whose Recommendations I follow and that helps... But, something that nags at my mind sometimes is how striated the Heart System can be for new people coming in who aren't being "followed" by anyone and aren't following anyone, so whatever THEY Heart doesn't show up under anyone's ACTIVITY stream like it does if say, Marke - when you hit the Heart on something and so many people are following your Activity Stream that YOUR HeartRecommendation shows up on countless Activities streams and really draws attention to what you've Heart-ed as opposed to when someone new with 1 or 5 followers hits the Heart it only shows up in the Activities of, and therefore gets the attention of, those 1 - 5 people. So then those 1-5 people are made aware of the Record that was Recommended by the new person, but if Marke hits the Heart on that same Record then thousands and thousands of people will be made aware of the Record that you - Marke - just Recommended.
Don't get me wrong though, I'm not complaining about the striation in the Heart system. I can't imagine anything could fix that mathematical misfortune and I think the Heart system is elegant and fun. I just feel like I miss a lot because I can't follow EVERYONE to see what EVERYONE recommends - you know. No one can. So the unfortunate outcome is that the "pull" of the Recommendations of individual hitRECorders becomes weighted according to how many people follow their Activity Stream and then a lot of us are not aware of the Record unless we happen to see it in the fleeting Latest Records, the ever-changing HeartRate system or the much more permanent solution: SEARCH

Make sense?

The HeartRate System is a great counterbalance to that striation, but unless you watch it 24 hours a day you're bound to miss something. So I think this - and ideas like it -will really help people find things they WANT to remix, because there is SO SO very much to look through it is impossible to know if you have missed something that would be of great interest to you. Excellent addition here Marke.

More to the point I think that improvements to Search SPECIFICITY on both the Recording and the Searching ends - like this one - are a wonderful solution to the mathematical irregularities of the circulatory system of hitrecord.org

But I would like to REMIX this new addition to the SEARCH system by giving you a suggestion of how it could best be implemented to make us ALL feel like no matter how busy we get, that when we come back to HR - 12 hours or 12 weeks later - that we won't have missed Records that would be of the most interest to us.

It's a two-fold means of making the hitRECord Database of ALL existing records give EACH and EVERY hitRECorder PERSONALIZED suggestions of what Records they have not yet seen, that they should look at/listen to/watch/etc.
On a new "Recommendations" Tab, under the Activities Stream, provide the following:
1) a place for us to fill in our Automatic Search Criteria- meaning that we fill in the search criteria including keywords, SUBJECT MATTER, Record Type, etc. and then every time a Record is uploaded that meets our chosen Criteria, that Record AUTOMATICALLY appears in the Recommendations Tab of our Activity Stream.
2) Automated Comparative Recommendations based on the database RECOGNIZING patterns in what WE RECOMMEND/hit the Heart on so that things that are similar to what we have liked in the past ALSO appear on our Recommendations Tab in our Activity Streams. Because then we will be given records we would NOT THINK to search for as our tastes evolve and we begin hitting the Heart on more and more Records that have Keywords and Subject Matter other than what we DO THINK to search for, but the database has noticed a trend in our changing taste.

Because isn't evolution what hitRECord is all about? So if we
could be guided by recommendations based on choices we've not yet consciously recognized as a new taste in art - we could move in new directions and discover new talents and tastes much faster than if we are all left to search for the same old keywords we KNOW we like.

Make sense? Well I hope no one has been offended by this. As I said, I am simply trying to suggest a way to improve the technical functionality of the VERY awesome Search and Recommend features we already have on this amazingly foward-thinking playground for the mind.
re all obsolete now anyway. Hah!!!

gosh, i didn't realize pickle had answered me at such length on this one - sorry ms blossom! it is so hard to follow threads anymore, especially now! anyway, just fyi, yes i know about copyright laws as regards collage, and in my case, yes it was a famous band hear of manic street preachers?) and a fan of theirs who i'd done a piece for sent it to them, and she was the one that told me and sent me the CD. but i think it was some kind of promo CD, cuz it was a double CD that i've never seen marketed. anyway, yeah....i've had my own site since 1999; huge portfolio there. most folks do link back...once i find them and ask! - thanks, dear!

"Honestly I LOVE that Gwen does the library stuff she does. I think it's a huge service to the community."

Thanks so much, PickleBlossom. =)

Every time I click on my "Featured Records" icon -or- "View All" I see this message: "We're sorry, but something went wrong. We've been notified about this issue and we'll take a look at it shortly."

I haven't been able to arrange my featured records for a long long time. :( I mean, I know these guys are busy and I'm not trying to sound bitchy but it kinda sucks not to be able to select or revise your featured material.

Gwen: I thought you'd like to know people appreciate what you do. And I think Joe phrased it best as a "heroic effort." It takes a certain level of ballsey-ness to look at this place and the pace at which it moves and say "I'm gonna catalogue that." With Marke, I believe I brought it up first but he DEFINITELY knows your library is there and though he could not list it as an "official" means of search when we were talking about the original topic (the records of new members slipping through the cracks and how we can all find more records that inspire us individually without more effort because of time constraints) but your library inspired a passage about how albums could be used to strengthen search results and how to encourage others to mimic YOUR habit of making albums. Because when you search for a record you get ONE thing that matches but when you search for an album you get an album-full that match. But IMHO not enough people make albums - myself totally included in that.

Via: Thank you sweety. I'm a little embarassed I've been dragging my sorrows all over the place but I'm doing better. I'll be fine. Have you seen Thom Thumb (MajorThom) in his Goblin makeup? Now THERE'S a hot rebound. LOL!!! Sorry the makeup is SO grotesque! Look at his Facebook. OMG!

The rest of what you said: Very well put, as always. And I may have gotten a few facts slightly off (tax laws for LLC's are new to me) but I have one of those Eidedic memories where I can replay a video in my head of whatever I've heard/seen so there's a lot of random facts in here. Of course it leaves no room for me to remember what I did 5 minutes ago and don't you DARE ask me what I had for breakfast HAH! But I devour nonfiction books. I can't read fiction since my head injury because I fall asleep but I have 98 books checked out from the library right now. Mwahahaha!

I'm so sorry to hear that your things get stolen! See, with collage it's NOT TECHNICALLY stealing because with images you have to change it at least 60% and when you take an image and make it a small part of a much larger work of art - as in collage - unless ONE of the images accounts for over 59% of the TOTAL collage image, you are not technically breaking a law. You are creating a new work of art that incorporates copywritten imagery but in doing so you are creating something with a completely new shape, form, and meaning. That's why collage is a legally saleable artform.
But if people are stealing your collages unaltered then THAT is copyright infringment. Technically a thing is copywritten as soon as it is recorded in a form outside your head. As soon as the poem is on paper, as soon as the collage is done. Legal copywriting is just the most effective means to prove WHEN you put your thoughts into their physical form.

I say if it's individuals doing artwork online, and you wouldn't be able to get payment from them because they probably don't have money - then you might as well make the best of it and tell them that it's your image, but rather than making trouble by suing them, you would like to propose a mutually beneficial solution - they give you credit for your image and link to your Portfolio site (I haven't checked if you have one but you can get a free site without coding from scratch as long as you take the FrontPage markers out of the code - which is simple, let me know if you want to know how.) and in return you will put "Cover art for..." on your resume and link to their site.
But if they're signed or getting rich: SUE! SUE! SUE! lol

Sorry - lotta lawyers in my family, letigiousness is in my blood. LOL Can you imagine me in a courtroom? In a powersuit with big ol shoulder pads? Ha!

Aww, thanks PickleBlossom. i had no idea that you or others have been bringing up the Library. That makes me smile. Did Marke really say something about it too somewhere, or did i misunderstand? i didn't even know Marke knew about the library so that would be a nice surprise... =)

GWEN: if you look down toward the beginning - and possibly in my original post - where we're discussing the searchability of the site, your library is brought up several times. I used it as an example of something that should be encouraged for easier searching and Marke commented on it as well. You've made a very valuable Resource for the site! And it's definitely recognized as such. :^)
(Just wanted you to know lots of people have noticed your "heroic habit.")
