Here's a rough background of this lady behind the veil:

Martha Brickford -

She was a loving and kind lady born in Essex back in the 17th century. Happily married with 18 children, Martha was nothing more but a kind and beautiful homemaker. Her popularity amongst the townsfolk sparked jealousy and was eventually accused of practicing witchcraft. As a punishment, she was buried alive, alone. (though exactly what happened to her family, no one knew) She died in a matter of a few days but with the help of a mysterious Minstrel, she was brought back to life. Now, bearing the name Herald of Death, this lady clad in black is supposedly a malicious spirit that brings death towards those she had wanted revenge upon. It is said that her attire was meant to cover up her flesh that was partially consumed by insects. 

P.S - This is just a rough sketch of a stroyline. One may change it as one likes :)
