Today, my handlers brought in a girl. I was very excited because it was my first time seeing another person since… since my ejection, I suppose. And I can’t remember much from that time, as you know. According to my handlers, it was finally time for me to meet another human being! I wasn’t expecting it at all either. Most of my classes have been about economics and self-reliance lately, and we covered biology and social responses a long time ago, so it was kind of a surprise, but a big surprise! As I said, exciting! So anyways, she came in and I’m not sure if it was really awkward, or if that’s the way all of these encounters are supposed to go. At first I thought my handlers were playing some kind of game or doing one of their studies or something, because nobody ever mentioned to me that people looked exactly the same as me. I don’t know if she noticed, but I figure she must have because, really, we were very alike. She had the same two arms, and the same two legs, she had one face, with lots of teeth. I didn’t actually stand up and compare, but her height was the same too, I bet. Her hair was also the same. It was a bit lighter than my own, which is really not at all like my clear skin (I wish you could see it, it really is very dark), but it was the same! I mean, it was puffier and wavier too, but other than that, it was exactly the same as my own hair: Kinda wiry and strandy, and really light and thin and an amorphous mess in your hands and unable to do much more than hang around. Her skin also was exactly the same, you know? I’m sure it couldn’t have been, because she wasn’t me, duh! But I was truly astonished at how very much like my own it was! It was smooth most of the time, and she didn’t get it too wrinkly just then, but it was obvious that it could get really wrinkly sometimes. Hers was a bit darker than my own, but other than that it was clear that it was the very same thing. As I said, the whole deal made me really uncomfortable. If not for the fact that her hair was a lot longer than mine, I would have had trouble differentiating us! And the only reason her hair was longer, my handlers later told me, was that she was a girl and not a boy like me. And, apparently, girls usually like their hair long, which I thought was smart because otherwise there wouldn’t really be all that much to tell us apart, huh? But whatever, my handlers didn’t like my reaction. They didn’t even let her stay for third meal, which may have been for the best because I knew she would have liked the same cookies as me and it would probably have freaked me out a bit at first (Also, if she liked them the same as me, it would have been hard to share them, right? I thought that at the time, but now I would have liked her to have some?). But I guess I didn’t get the handlers' meaning because they had been telling me I would be meeting a different human being, and it confused me! In retrospective, I should have noticed that her clothes were different, but since they covered mostly the same areas, I figured they served the same purpose? Bah. This whole thing turned out to be pretty stupid. Anyways, the thing is that, after today, my handlers feel like I’m not ready to go out into the world just yet, on account that I apparently can’t tell the differences between people :( Aw well, I guess I’ll stay in the complex for a bit longer. I don’t mind, since it also means that you and I won’t have to say goodbye so soon :) See ya! Me. |
