We live in the present. We wait all year for a Christmas present. We dread that college paper we have to present. Is it any wonder that English is such a difficult language to learn?

We say that we live in the present, but I don’t think that’s true. We live in the future and the past. We exist in the present, but our minds live in what has gone before and long for what has yet to happen.

Even when we spout trite phrases like “carpe diem” and “stop and smell the roses”, we never really do. We’re too busy remembering and longing.

I exist in the day I created by my actions yesterday, and I work in my existence for the day I can create tomorrow. What tomorrow will I create today? What memories will I carry with me into my future? Living in the day really just living for tomorrow.
