Some would argue that Spring is the youth of the seasons. New buds, new births, new beginnings... But I say summer is the eternal child. The unrelenting heat that at times seems to literally consume your very insides is hardly a concern to a carefree child. Minutes seem like hours in the blazing summer sun. Unless of course you're in the middle of a pirate adventure or making mud pies.
Fireflies. Can they stir the same emotion they commanded when catching and containing them in glass jars was all the rage? Real, live flourescent beings. A miracle of nature literally at your fingertips waiting to be posessed.
If you know just how to bite the end off a honeysuckle, boy you're really going places! The bitter first nip and then spit, all for a few drops from that flower is a taste you never forget.
Water, water any will do. The beach, a lake, the friend's pool. THAT is the summer must have.
What other season can compete? Summer is a feeling that will always be an eternal adventure. Who knows what it has in store for the child in all of us.
