They walked hand-in-hand, he and she. Through the mountains and down in the valleys towards the the glistening lake that held the city close.
They ran through the field and counted the fireflies that played hide-and-seek. The singular tree on the far side of the valley beckoned to them to lay underneath it and watch the sun and the sky and the earth dance together in an ever changing bouquet of colors. Gentle beads of sweat jumped onto their clothes to get a better view of the sunset. The fireflies had also gathered around them and encircled them in a bouncing formation. The tree bent down to shade them and its leaves rested on their skin. The couple, hands still locked, closed their eyes and rested their heads on the thick moss that had grown on the tree. The sun had set and the beads of sweat and gone away with it, but the fireflies stayed, waiting for them to wake back up. |
