Memories of summer

I live in a country when almost all the year is summer season, 6 months of suffocating heat, mosquitos, an intense sun that can burn your skin in 20 minutes and entire days of sand, “piñas coladas” and warm water of the Pacific Ocean.

For me summer is smells, tastes, sights…

Is my dad and my uncles swimming on the ocean, my mom putting me sunscreen so I would not burn my skin after spending hours making sandcastles with my cousins, summer remind me of the smell of the coconut juice or the bittersweet taste of mango with salt and lemon…

Summer reminds me of long walks behind the sun, picking shells and stones, watching the fishing boats in the ocean, and the seagulls flying around the estuary…

It also reminds me of playing ball at the beach, of my mom telling me: Please, don’t go to the deep, stay in the shore! It reminds me of the calm feeling that runs through your body when you feel the salty water in your feet…

Summer reminds me of stolen kisses under the moonlight, campfires and songs, the white and brilliant reflection of the moon in the water, it reminds me of shooting stars followed by the inevitable wish, of seafood and roasted marshmallows and family, friends, lovers, laughs, cries and dreams that the tide took away.

I wish every day, was a summer day.....Summer is my past, present and future, because for sure I want to spend my last days near the beach, as much as I spent my first days close to it

Summer, I LOVE YOU!
