Today, I have 3 more stories to share with you guys, 2 of them are Nicaraguan Legends: The Black Ship & La Mocuana. And the #3 is a horror story about a house that everybody says that it’s haunted: “La Quinta Angelica” (Angelica’s Country House) in “El Crucero” highway, this one is an Urban Legend, well; I think that they are all urban legends. Hope you enjoy them.

The Black Ship:

The Story says that a long time ago, a small boat was crossing the Nicaragua Lake from The City of San Carlos to the Colonial City of Granada.  When the sailors were passing by an island, they heard screams and laments.  The 2 families that live in the island were dying poisoned, because they had eaten a cow that had been bitten by a Toboba snake (and is lethal).

So both families started to scream:

They were in pain and they asked to the sailors:

-          Please, take us to Granada to a hospital.

The sailors said:

-          How are you going to pay for your tickets!

And they said:

-          We’ll pay you with fruits and vegetables.

The sailor said:

-          We can’t we have to deliver this pigs and chickens at Granada and if I stop to take you to the hospital, all these animals will die and our boss is going to kill us.

The families, screaming in pain said to them:

-          But, we are people, we need help!

And the sailor said:

-          I am sorry, we can’t, we have to go, and maybe somebody else is going to help you. Good bye.

So the sailors go back to the boat and started to leave the island and the families that were dying. Suddenly, the grandma of one of the families, look at them and said: “Damn you, you are going to pay for this, and now that you close your hearts to us and leave us here in our grief, the lake is going to be close for you forever”.

The sailors look at them and leave the island. The story says that they never saw the land again, that they were lost in the darkness in the middle of the lake for the eternity, because the old lady cursed them. After that happened, The people that is traveling through the lake in their boats says that sometimes, at night, you can see the ship, in the middle of the lake, and the boat is black, and have rotten sails and you can hear to the sailors inside screaming and asking: Where are we? Where is Granada? And asking for help, but then the wind drag the boat back to the dark.

La Mocuana:

Many years ago in the early colonial days, the news about the gold deposits that were known as the domain of the Chief of the third villa Sébaco, brought to these lands to a lot of Spanish sailors who were welcomed by the Sébaco chief, giving them some gold as a present to the King of Spain. After the gift, the Chief asked the foreigners to go away with the condition that they never come back and leave the villa forever. Apparently they leave, but they returned very soon, with the intention to steal all the gold of the chief. But, the chief, knowing their intentions, hid his treasures and gold, only her daughter knew the secret hideout. The Spanish were defeated.

Time passed, and after the arrival of the sons of the old Spanish conquerors, one of them fell in love with the daughter of the Villa chief, who was very beautiful. She fell in love too, and because she knew that her father will be against her relationship with the Spanish, fled with him one night.

Generously, she gave to her Spanish lover all the gold and wealth that she possessed, and after that he left her with nothing, he locked her in a cave of the hill and closed the only exit and left her alone and in the darkness, but she knew her lands more than anybody and she managed to escape.

The attitude of her lover and the betrayal, made her lose her mind and then she became a witch named La Mocuana. Since then, she appears on the roads and invites passers to follow her to the cave; people say that you can’t see her face, only her long, willowy figure and beautiful hair. Many people have disappeared in these lands and have never returned.  Also, some nights, you can hear to La Mocuana, screaming and asking for her gold and for her father.

La Quinta Angelica (Angelica’s country house):

This house is located in a very popular road in Managua (Nicaragua’s capital) named: “El Crucero”. This is a highway that takes you from Managua to the colonial City of Leon, at the north of Nicaragua, if you are driving at this highway at night, there are some road sections that are lonely, you can’t see houses around and there is always some kind of fog or mist surrounding you in all the way until the next city. There are a lot of horror stories in this highway, they say that if you are driving alone around 1 am and 3 am, and accidentally you take a look through the rearview mirror, you can see a woman, with white dress, running next to your car, and if you are able to see her face, you’ll see that she doesn’t have eyes and that her face is very white. But one of the most scary and horrible stories about this highway, is the story of “La Quinta Angelica”, it was named like that for the younger of the daughters of the family that owns this property, angelica. The story says that it was a murder at this house around 1940. The whole family included Angelica, were found dead one afternoon by the woman that clean the house. After that, the house was inhabited by other families, including the French ambassador in 1950. He said that he always hear noises and saw shadows in the house, after he left, nobody else wants to live in this house. In 1965, 4 guys from a university in Managua stayed one night at the house, and they say that they were able to see a lot of things, and that something pushed one of them through the stairs. They never come back after that night. Since then, there were a lot of people visiting the house, and they all have stories and scary experiences during their visits.  Now the house is in ruins, but you can’t help to have some chills when you pass in front of “La Quinta Angelica” in your car, especially at night.

Hope you enjoyed them. Thanks for reading guys.

Creepy stories! ^^ About the last one, we talk about The White Lady (la Dame Blanche) in France, who appears to drivers, the night, by the wayside - but she's here as if she wanted to prevent a danger of accident, I think :)

Thanks for the heart Binu Sivan! The story of the black ship is fascinating, I've been in that lake so many times and even when you know that it's just a legend, you are expecting to see some black boat in the middle of the lake! and about the woman with white dress running beside the car, yeah, it's really scary, esoecially when you are driving alone on that road, I could have a heart attack if I saw that lady watching me, running beside my car in the middle of the night! Thanks and I am glad that you enjoyed both stories :)

Hi Gaby I loved the Black Ship and the story about the woman in the white dress running beside the car is scary. I would have driven off the road but died way before the impact. The sheer fright would have done it :)
