INCEPTION Dream Doc

INCEPTION is coming out soon, and in conjunction with its release, they're making a documentary on dreams. When I was asked to participate, I suggested that hitRECord contribute to the project.
We started this collaboration a couple weeks ago now, and it's been going fucking great. Thanks for all the good work so far!
I recently sat down with the documentarian who's directing the movie, Roko Belic, and we RECorded our conversation about where we can go from here. He also wrote the following to accompany the video...
Concepts we'd like hitRECorders to be inspired by as they create:
- dreaming and creativity (dreams are in some way the ultimate expressions of our creativity)
- the vagueness between different states of consciousness (including waking and sleeping. The spaces in between...)
- losing yourself in a story / dream / movie -- losing the boundaries of your self
Some specifics to illustrate:
-worst case scenarios, e.g. nightmares
-Freudian unresolved wishes - sex etc.
-our brains create a model that we consider to be reality. In waking it's dictated by a physical world that filters through our senses (sight, smell, hearing, touch, taste). In sleeping the brain creates freely, untethered by an external physical world.
-the phenomenon of sleep paralysis, sleep paralysis disorder, sleep walking, sleep behavior disorder
-dreaming is a creative act, your brain is an artist and filmmaker
-every character in your dream is you. In your dream you are essentially speaking to yourself.
-having novel ideas in dreams. Some Nobel prizes and works of art are accredited to inspiration from dreams
-the archetypal dream of school exam anxiety where, in your dream, you show up to school to learn that you have to take a major test that you're completely unprepared for.
-the archetypal dream of seeing someone close to you who has died.
-the idea that dreams are not just all in your head, they may be a portal to another reality -- a parallel universe.
So, if you want to shoot a whole short film out of any of these dreams, that's great. But it's also great to contribute your brick in the larger wall. Draw a picture, take a photo, animate a moment.
Also, Roko hasn't chosen any music yet, so the more dreamy sounding stuff we can throw his way, the more likely our tunes can make up this doc's score.
Also also, even if you don't make any videos, images or music, you can still really help by browsing through the RECords we've already got on our site and finding stuff you think might work for this project. Find dreamy, surreal, beautiful visuals -- still images are good, but video is even better. Find dreamy music or soundscapes. Compile an Album of the RECords you find, and contribute that album to the Collaboration.
I'm so grateful and happy to be a part of Inception -- I think you guys are really gonna love the movie. And I can't wait to see what we all make together on this doc project.
Sleep to dream...
