Nameless
Nameless, you were all I had
You took with you my heart
And though I’m empty now I’m glad
You filled me at the start
Without you I’m a slab of cells
Arranged in human shape
But anyone with eyes can tell
I’m held in place with tape
Not with you I’m an unpaired sock
Useless without a mate
That unattractive, beachfound rock
Which, on the sand, looked great
But when you get it home it’s plain
It’s lost its briny sheen
Without you I’m a grimy grey
With you I’m shiny clean
You took with you my heart
And though I’m empty now I’m glad
You filled me at the start
Without you I’m a slab of cells
Arranged in human shape
But anyone with eyes can tell
I’m held in place with tape
Not with you I’m an unpaired sock
Useless without a mate
That unattractive, beachfound rock
Which, on the sand, looked great
But when you get it home it’s plain
It’s lost its briny sheen
Without you I’m a grimy grey
With you I’m shiny clean
