Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em = = > Be not afraid of humility: most are born average, some are told by their parents they are above average, and a few simply have it stuck in their heads through narcissism that their shit doesn't stink.
Original by William Shakespeare - A Twelfth Night (Scene II, ACT 5). Some explanation as to why I think my remix is a change to make the statement more positive: Shakespeare's advice was good in the 16th century, but people's attitudes are different in the 21st century, making what was once positive advice become a battle cry for all to think that they deserve an equal shot at the top just because they want it. A little humility goes a long way in the pursuit of happiness. Besides, Shakespeare had an egotistic character say this in the play - the original line was meant to be funny - a statement to show how egotistic the character was in believing that a letter he had found was real and not a trick. But since most people these days don't know that, they take the statement at face value and use it as motivation to become great. My remix is more of what the meaning of the line was meant to be to the audience. That's why I think it is a change to make it more positive. I could be wrong. If I am, then I'm okay with that - feel free to remix it as you see fit. I don't think I have a corner with a soapbox on which to stand and preach about my understanding of Shakespeare by any means! |
