just my thoughts really 

By definition independence is not allowing to be controlled or influenced. I am all up for making your own mind up and being an individual. But being apart of an industry that strives to be influential and making a difference its almost impossible not to be 'independent' . I personally think that independence is a state/ phase where you can truly say you enjoy your own company and can be alone without being lonely. Without sounding bleak and putting a downer on everything it seems harder work to be indie that just plain me.
