i was inspired by thadicalradical's interview to go for it and do moisanom's interview so - here are my answers...
1. Who are you and what do you do? i am someone who believes in people, family, life and hope, and all the things that grumpy people roll their eyes and glare at. i work to make the world better, as crazy hopeless that may sound. and i try to inspire people to create better things on their own. 2. What's the origin of your artist name? it is a play on several key words/names in my life. i realized it sounded like “corollary” when i posted my “a kouralilly (remixes)” and i defined it a bit more there. 3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far? being patient with myself as i learn what i’m doing. not getting frustrated with what i don’t know, but recognizing it as room to learn and being patient with myself as i get there. 4. Who or what is your biggest influence? my religion. not in a hokey-obsessive way – but as something which kept me grounded and gave me tools with which to think for myself and make the right decisions in my life. i think we all should make our own choices – but it helps to have a moral code and guidance when you need it. for me, it provided that. coupled with my parents (who are both amazing) and some really great friends i’ve found along the way. 5. What is your wildest story? my friends say my life is like a movie, and nothing that happens to me is small-scale. i could close my eyes and point to almost any calendar date since i was born and tell you something crazy that happened. being the only girl in my rigging class led to one of my favorites – followed by many things that have ensued since. 6. What is the last book you read? “war of gifts” by orsen scott-card (a short story as part of the ender’s game stories. if you haven’t read ender’s game, i highly recommend it (but i don't reccomend the sequels). read the ender’s shadow series after that. awesome stories.) 7. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be? michelle. now, im revising this to admit that one of my first thoughts as an answer to this question was petra - but i would have done a few things a bit differently... 8. What couldn’t you live without? aside from the obvious answers like food, air and water…i’d have to say knowing that the future hasn’t happened yet, and i can do anything i want with my life if i’m willing to work to get there. 9. What is your secret talent? i have a few. one is that i’m fairly fluent in american sign language. 10. Tell me about the last dream you remember having? i was in an office in the building where i work, and i was trying to talk to my dad who was also there. a girl came in wearing a bathrobe over her office clothes and holding a teddy bear. she started telling me about her plans for a meeting she had later and explaining how a bathrobe was needed. i then realized i was wearing this blue robe my dad got at the rose bowl parade to keep warm, with a big honda logo on the back. i then remembered that i had just been talking to a major member of the office while i was wearing it and he hadn’t said anything. the next thing i knew i was in germany with some friends of mine, hugging each other to stay warm while we walked past a mcdonalds on our way to a virgin mega store…(rannndom) 11. What are you craving right now? chocolate chip cookie dough truffles… 12. What was the last song you fell in love with? a cover of thousand years by christina perri sung by steven tomala and mary mckevitt. just before that was a swedish house mafia song…i have eclectic taste in music. 13. Can you hula hoop? endlessly.
14. What do you like? life. hope. warm weather rain. thunder storms. everything aesthetic. rigging. event production. constructive criticism. cinematography. photography. barefoot crazies with paint on their hands. almost all modern country music. driving on an open freeway for hours. sparkling apple cider. being able to walk again. my friends and family. japanese food. italian coffee. meeting interesting people. learning. teaching. not giving up. 15. What do you dislike? wheelchairs. hospitals. doctors who “gomer” patients. (get-out-of-my-er without finding what is wrong – it almost killed me). grumpy people. people with no tolerance and who just vent anger and antagonism towards things they disagree with without even trying to understand. not that i'm anti-ranting, as i have done my share. but ranting with no desire to understand, only to prove something to be as wrong as possible...don't like it. anyone who really truly believes that it is worse to have dreams that you might not reach, than to never dream at all. people who do anything to remind us how horrible it all is, instead of recognizing the horror and being willing to face and do something about it. most newscasters, professional spectators and psychiatrists.
16. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given? be competent – look, learn and practice; never regret yesterday, life is in you today and you make your own tomorrow; never lose your personal integrity because when you lose that, you’ve lost everything. (ok – that was 3 pieces of advice).
17. How and why did you start RECording? as a hitRECorder, i had just come home from my 4th hospitalization within 8 months last year and was stuck in a wheelchair. i was watching (an inception making-of video?) on youtube and through that chain we all know of clicking on associated videos, i wound up stumbling across an interview joe did where he mentioned hitRECord. i then googled hitRECord, found a video of him talking about it and his brother, dan, and i checked out the site. i was pretty much hooked right away, and it has been a saving grace for me over the past 6 weeks or so while i’ve been continuing on with my recovery and starting to walk again. as an artist, i have to go with joe’s description of “again, by heart” – in that “re-cord” literally means “again - heart.” in his interpretation, we all technically have been recording as long as our hearts have been beating. i like that concept. i believe that artists see the world through from different angle, and record with our minds throughout our life. so in that sense, i started RECording the first day of my life. and i did it because i like seeing the world from another angle – hearing the rhythem of passing traffic, noticing the light playing off the side of an office building and all those other “clichés” that grumpy people frown at. i RECord because deep down inside, i am still just that little girl in her pink bathing suit dancing with an umbrella under the sprinklers in the backyard.
