The first RECord I uploaded to this site was a webcam picture. I took it on December 8^th, 2010. I didn’t even have my iPod touch yet, let alone my camera.

My latest RECord was taken on December 6^th, 2011, with my camera that I took to RECord my first hitRECord show. That alone is incredible. The fact that the picture is of me with the Tiny Book: Volume 1, in which one of my tiny stories is published in, is practically unbelievable.

I mean, going from not even owning a proper RECording device to being published by hitRECord in the space of a year? A-ma-zing.

2010 was a rough year for me. I found out in late ’09 that my grandmother’s cancer, the cancer she had battled with since before I was born, was terminal. She was a great sport about it, her sense of humour was left untouched, but in early April of last year, she passed away. The funeral, (the first one I would attend) including the weeklong preparation and the two-day wake, emotionally and physically drained me.

When I joined hitRECord, it was almost a distraction, at first. It was something that took my mind off the lingering sadness. Which has never really left, actually. But over the months of poking around the site, collaborating and getting to know the RECorders, hitRECord became something I can’t imagine not having. It helped me become more confident in my work, as a person…it just helped me. It’s hard to explain. Being a part of something makes me feel confidant, happy, and satisfied. 

This past year, in 2011…well, I could list all of the things that happened on HR that I had a hand in; all the REsults from my RECords, but that would take far too long.

So I’ll just say thank you to my fellow RECorders and to the HitRECord Team. You all inspire and aid me in ways I can’t even describe. Just know that all of you had a hand in making this year, one of the very very best.

I can’t wait to see what we accomplish next year. I can’t wait to see I accomplish, too.

It’s worth noting that my laptop, the one I took that webcam picture on, the one that I’m currently writing this on, is now on its last legs. I got it in early ’09, and I’ve made almost all of my RECords on it. Next year I will own a desktop computer, a proper mic, and video editing software that isn’t Windows Movie Maker. If that’s not a sign of what 2012 will bring, I don’t know what is.

Onwards to Sundance!!!
