Against The Odds

The term “war bride” was coined to describe the wartime marriages during World War I and World War II. Since then, the term has also come to describe marriages in more recent wars as well. Today’s conflict in Iraq is no different. No force can stop the power of love, which the couples I have read about clearly demonstrate, fighting against religious and social norms and remaining strong despite the war around them. A fact of wartime romance is that it happens quickly. People feel the need to act quickly in such situations, because their lives could end at any time. People get married within months of knowing each other.
For love to be born in the battlefield is, in my opinion, a precious and powerful thing. Now that the war is ending, I for one hope that every relationship created during the war turns into a much-deserved happily ever after.
