This REC is about all the deletion discussion is going on on this RECord, written by Feanne: http://hitrecord.org/records/317639

The solutions she suggested seems to me (and to a lot of people) only reasonable and easy to execute with some thinking and work -- and, of course, time. I understand the people involved in keeping hitRECord community working has a lot of work, and I'm completely willing to wait some time for these suggested changes.

In this REC I'm compiling what was originally suggested by Feanne and other people REmarking her RECord, among with my own additions. If you want to add another suggestion, just let me know.

For practicality sake's, I'm going to number the options given to us by fellow RECorders:

  1. SeaHorse (http://hitrecord.org/users/SeaHorse) mentioned VOLUNTEERED MODERATORS, which makes absolute sense, since this is a collaborative community. Why let all the hard work for the staff if we can help them? It seems to me like a great temporary fix.

  2. Feanne proposes to "allow hitrecord users to delete their own records as long as the records have not yet received 'collaborative activity'", and I'd stress the last part as very important. I'm no expert, but it can't be that hard to set up a software able to recognise those RECords that hasn't been marked as "resources".

  3. She also mentions still using the RECORD REMOVAL COLLAB, with a similar feature mentioned about -- the system would be programmed to "run through these submissions every once in a while (weekly? monthly?) and automatically delete the records that have not yet received 'collaborative activity'".

I'm not going into the discussion of the definition of what is "collaborative activity" here, I think we might spam too far away from the main and practical purpose here: allow users to select their own work which they are comfortable in letting other people use.

Of course, if you uploaded something, we all think you ARE comfortable in letting people use it, but as several people REmarked in Feanna's RECord, art evolves and sometimes people can make mistakes when uploading something.

I think if allowing users to delete their own work sounds a bit risky, maybe only a feature of HIDDING a certain RECord should be enough, and the 'clearance' to actually permanently delete it be exclusive of said moderators or the system itself, I don't know.

Well, that's what I think... And I also think we should give this discussion more light, so don't forget to re-rec, remark, remix, re-whatever to make this discussion BIG to the eyes of everyone in this community!
