François was a funny looking monster, not cut out for his profession. He looked more silly than scary and seemed to lack direction. Among the other young monsters he was a laughing stock. So tired was he of indignity and so tired of being mocked. So one day he went to visit his old uncle Raphaël. Who was arguably scarier than the demons found in hell. “Oh uncle please, Francois pled, teach me to be a beast who can petrify paralysis… or make someone cry at least? “ “My young Nephew far in between and few have scared like me. The haunt must be something you want and truly wish to be.” “Oh uncle can’t you at least give me a tip or just a trick?” “Some just aren’t meant to scare, my child, you must find your own schtick.” So the next day François showed up for work more lost now than before. And once again was ridiculed for lacking skills in horror. “I'll show my peers,” Francois said. “I'll scare someone to death! I’ll be the biggest bad around! They’ll take back their mocking breath!”   So on his first assignment Francois crept through a window in the dark, And there he found a boy who slept. Ideal for his mark! “Wrrraaaaaa!” he screamed with all his might. The child leapt from his bed. And cowered in the corner. Blanket pulled over his head. Francois, beside himself with pride, beamed at his accomplishment.  But as he heard the young boy cry began to feel lament.  “I'm sorry I made you cry little boy, but in scaring you, I took no pleasure. I needed to prove myself and well…of a monster, fear is our measure. Go back to sleep my strange young friend. I know you must be tired. Just know you’ve nothing more to fear. I no longer am inspired.” It was then that Francois did recall his wise uncle’s contention That we all must find our own calling, regardless of convention. So Francois resolved that this job of fear was not his to employ. And now turns frowns upside down, forever spreading joy.
