Like a love scene two friends much more like strangers walk a path meeting at a similar street across at its corners. The man very tall and proper does not wait but crosses from his corner to hers. The lady petit and modest takes in the cold air with the surprised breath to see him at her side. But with that note he greets the lady as they cross back over to his side of the street. In the darkness of the night they meet while their feet grace the concrete dusted with snow.

With the street lights shining in the foreign soil they are planted in, the lady's thoughts take her away from the focus of what the night was to be about. Shyly she tries to hide the meaning behind her smile. Talking to him as if everything that he says does not make her eyes light up. The moon hanging in the sky among the clouds accompanied by the stars the lady speaks to the man in a quiet manner with laughter that escaped her body after every other thing he had expressed. The smile on his face just made her smile and blush and the wind could only conceal it for so long. Slowly walking down hill they find themselves at the doors they chose to meet at. The glowing interior lights setting the night on fire. In her head from that point on the night was only going to go down from there. She had something to say, something to express, something to set straight, something she truly feared.

From across the table the two exchange stares as the empty Pub started to fill and that familiar smell of food and cider floated through as the moment happened. As she sat there in some of her best attire she spoke lightly telling him that the words she spoke were only words and nothing more. He then looked slowly down and up again from his cup and slowly in a masculine tone said "I know". They never touched, not even once.  No one won that night when the laughter and cold air was replaced by voices & faces  that never gained what had been in that movement of that moment. The two friends who were much more like strangers silently kept their secret.
