Petunia's Party

Petunia Skye Pitty was sittin quite pretty

waiting for guests to arrive.

She sent invitations

to friends and relations

requesting they make the long drive

to her home in the country,

and though the road would be bumpy,

she promised them delicious delights --

cookies and cakes

roasts and steaks --

And a party well into the night!

Later that evening

Petunia was grieving

That all her guests failed to arrive.

The cakes were all stale,

The roasts had gone pale,

And Petunia sat down and she cried.

“Some friends,”

She huffed,

“And family?”

She scoffed,

“They’re all selfish,  as selfish as can be!

I promised them fun

But not a single one

Thought it important to share it with me.”

But Miss Petunia Skye Pitty

Overlooked a tiny, itty bitty

mistake that she made on her cards.

With a last name like Pitty,

In an attempt to be witty,

Her wits backfired and left guests rather jarred.

They received invitations

And initial elations

Turned to frowns out of the blue.

And no one did go

(even I would say no)

To the Petunia Pitty Party – would you?
