I just saw this again as I was browsing conversations and I realized no one actually answered your problem! So you posted a record when you meant to post a reply. The difference, here in conversation, is whether or not you add a title. Under the big red dot EVERYTHING turns into a record (or Collaboration, etc.) but when you are in a conversation thread, skip the file and the title and it will post as a reply.

Someone needs to make an instructional video to help people with this site. I tell my friends to take a look and they make the same simple mistakes. I did too.
