With Age, Wisdom Cometh (or so they say)
March 16, 2011
With every year of one's life comes at least one major life lesson learned. Tori and Lula's '25 Things to Do Before Turning 25' has inspired me to come up with this collaboration. How old are you? What have you learned so far in those x-number of years? Your contributions to this collaboration will be much appreciated! Be creative, be candid, but most of all, be truthful! You don't even have to have the wisdom of a wise old owl to come up with something. Contribute through text, image, video, anything! Here's mine, on simple text:
25 Life Lessons Learned By Age 25
1. If it's too good to be true, it's probably not true.
2. Being vegetarian can teach you a lot of things, from compassion to simplicity, creativity to amazingly regular bowel movements.
3. When you lie, you will eventually get caught. That is a guarantee.
4. Ergo, save yourself the trouble and just don't lie.
5. Science is about discovering and revealing facts about the universe, not about defining absolute truths. Science shouldn't be treated like a god, or religion. Sadly, a lot of "rational" people these days, treat science as such.
6. There is no such thing as an absolute truth. Only different pieces of reality.
7. Reality is malleable.
8. "First love never dies." But you WILL move on eventually.
9. You'll never genuinely understand the sacredness of your virginity until you lose it with the wrong person. Wait for the right one, because sacredness hurts when it is unraveled too early.
10. It's fun getting drunk. It's more fun to soberly watch people around you get drunk. It's no fun when you do either one all the time.
11. A bottle of beer in the morning will NOT cure a really bad hangover. Denny's won't, either.
12. Women who can't seem to reach orgasm and tell their partners, "It's not you; it's female biology", lie. Yes, men, you probably need more practice. But as a woman, I've learned that I should do my part, too.
13. The world would be a much tolerable place if everyone were bisexual.
14. You will finally appreciate the true value of education when you go back to school after years in a 6x6 ft. office cubicle.
15. Writer's block is overrated. Look around you! Inspiration is everywhere.
16. We are all social beings, but it won't hurt to be an island every once in a while. You learn so much about yourself and other people when you're alone.
17. If you are to be anything, anything at all, be Love and Gratitude.
18. I don't believe in god, but when I look at the little miracles around me, sometimes, I don't mind calling it God.
19. Overused, but true: do not let anyone tell you what you can't do.
20. Quit smoking. It's the best gift you can give your body.
21. Smoking weed as a "fucking amazing experience, dude!" really isn't.
22. Stay away from the "hardcore" stuff. Even if it's just for that one night, that one party, that one line, you'll be making it up for the rest of your life. THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
23. If you refuse to believe in Karma, then you better think at least five times before you act.
24. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but losing it altogether kills the spirit.
25. Look at everything, everyday, through the eyes of a child.
