On the Shoulders of Giants (image)
As suggested by pixel pilgrim, herewith: a visual for Newton's "Shoulders of Giants" quote.
Created for the Manifesto Audio/Visual Collaboration.
"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants."
Sir Isaac Newton - Discover of the Laws of Motion and of Gravitation, co-inventor of Calculus, and much more.
Quoted in letter to Robert Hooke, 5 February, 1676
The great Sir Isaac Newton was expressing modesty in his achievements, giving proper credit to those whose work he built on, all the way back to the Ancient Greeks and beyond. He summed up the collaborative nature of all human endeavour. His eloquence in expressing this fundamental truth has withstood the test of time, and become perhaps his best known quote.
In this spirit, we hitRECorders carry on, putting our faith in the humbleness and generosity of individual contributors, and in the vast and boundless creative potential of Humanity as a whole.
Newton was certainly a hitRECorder in spirit, one of our forebears, three centuries ahead of his time. I would not hesitate to call him the patron saint of hitRECord.
