Interview with hitRECord

1. Who are you and what do you do?

I am hitRECord. I try to put myself in other peoples' shoes. video editing, acting, writing, drawing, photography, and I make music. I'm a graphic artist, a gardener, a steampunk enthusiast, and a small-time philosopher a dreamer, a laugher, a crier, a lover I work, write, draw, look at things, recycle things, make things... I breathe in and out as steadily as possible but most of all i am an artist.

2. What's the origin of your artist name?

It's simply a bit of wordplay I find power in regular repetition. it sums me up without definition! I'm terrible at explaining what it is ...and I've used the name ever since.

3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?

Finding my language. Learning to trust it. trying to get my hand to reproduce what i have in my head. Being sufficiently selfish. Letting go, letting myself be imperfect, not over-analyzing. To stop second guessing the insight/infusion.  figuring out I could create art in the first place and my desire to do so much

4. Who or what is your biggest influence?

Mama, papa, brotha my closest companions have a harmonic disposition that is incredibly informative, motivational and approachable (just as you can be here).

Oliver Stone's "Platoon." "the Seven Faces of Dr. Lao"

I like to think that everything I encounter acts as an influence in one way or another. it's all such a mish-mash drawings inspire stories inspire music inspires drawings.

5. What is your wildest story?

oh, gosh, there are so many! ;-) Definitely this one. a couple friends of mine and I each chugged an enormous amount of cough medicine and things got stranger than they'd ever been before. I drank seven. Lost my friend, found him an hour later hugging a garbage can in a dark corner so we pay our tab and start to walk over to the mob of students to scope things out.. She told me I looked exactly like how she pictured Ginny Weasley. I was completely compromised… but then again… so was she. long story short they handed control over to me and i shouted i cant fly i cant fly.. but the truck managed to come back down on all fours

I remember my dreams every night…. but last nights was all kinda jumbled .. I was painting a HUGE house in the middle of a forest. It took me home. our old family dog, duncan, who disappeared many years ago, showed up. I'm pretty sure Tom Hardy made an appearance at one point someone was yelling at me while everyone else watched silently. I remembered it. Then I woke up.

Well, well, well. Long story.

Interesting story, I've been RECording as long as my heart's been beating over and over and over again. And so have you. I am RECording. I came to hitRECord thinking I had been all along I remember feeling that fire start within me to be excited and passionate about art and creation again, even if it was something small. even if only a dozen people see it, it's better than it languishing unloved.

It was like waking up one day to discover you had a language within you everything i hoped collab art could be you can walk away with your creative senses satisfied im not lying when i say hitrecord kind of saved me I do it because I love it, and I don't know what I would do if I couldn't make things.
