Interview with mronnow!
1. Who are you and what do you do?
Well, my name is Mikayla, and I do anything I set my mind to... not really. I wish I could actually set my mind to anything, but I don’t have enough patience with myself. It’s funny, because I have a lot of patience with other people, but I can never get myself to focus on something, or get myself to keep at something because the results are taking too long. That’s why I just try to stick with the simple things I’m good at like: doodling, writing, and photography.
2. What's the origin of your artist name?
The first letter of my first name, then my last name. When I signed up for hitRECord, I wanted to sound professional. But sometimes I desperately wish that I could change my name to my usual online alias name, DancingHybrid. *sigh*
3. What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?
Not having NEARLY as many resources for expressing art as everybody else. I have a school owned laptop (my personal laptop is currently ill with some sort of virus), I have a camera, I have a (now limited version, unfortunately) online photo editing account, I have a full sketchpad, and I have a scanner. And all in this mix, I’m an unemployed student with struggling parents. It’s not like I can just go out and buy a videocamera, or a new laptop.
But, hopefully I’m going to get a job soon. And then I’ll have money, and after I’m done filling my car up with gas, I’ll start buying some new tools to improve my artistic ability. Finally.
4. Who or what is your biggest influence?
I’m not sure. I don’t think I really have a personal influence. Neither of my parents, or anybody in my family for that matter, are really creative. They’re all pretty straight forward. My mom could’ve been, if she ever applied herself. But other than her little sparks of imagination, there is no one in my family that I could ever look up to as some sort of influence. Lemme just tell you something real fast, Mooresville is one of the fucking least creative towns in the history of towns. There are so many rednecks, and sometimes finding a creative outlet is like finding a fucking needle in a haystack...
So, not to sound corny, but I guess my biggest influence is Joe. But seriously, for the longest time I seemed to be wandering around the internet with things like stories, photos, and witty little comments, and I had nowhere to put them. Or, I’d put them up on a site, and they would never be acknowledged, or they’d just sit there, collecting dust. A final draft, not getting any attention. Then one day I came across hitRECord, and I watched The New Deal, and I fell in love with the site. I had known Joe acting, and he had already qualified as one of my all time favorites, but seeing him as this amazing, creative being made me look up to him even more.
So, yeah. Joe would probably be my inspiration... wait a second, the question was influence? ... same thing, right?
Oh well.
5. What is your wildest story?
I’m young. I don’t have a funny, “Oh I woke up in some strange place with an awful hangover and then I befriended some old man and he taught me how to play the banjo,” type of story. My crazy stories involve simple things, like cramming seven people into my tiny two door Ford Focus. Or drawing up drafts of a town made entirely of boxes... I’m fucking excited for my box town...
Hm, maybe I should come back to you on this question after this Saturday. For over two hours, I’ll be riding in the back of a band bus. And marching band kids tend to be some of the most perverted, strangest, AWESOMEst kids you’ll ever meet. *wink*
6. What is the last book you read?
I have been procrastinating on reading lately. And it’s been terrible. I’ve just been so damn busy, I haven’t found time. But the book I’ve been reading off and on has been Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. It’s definitely a good book, and I can’t wait to finish it. It’s about the circus... WHO DOESN’T LIKE THE FUCKING CIRCUS?
7. If you could be any character in fiction, who would you be?
Ha. I’m not sure. I’m going to go all teen girl on you guys here, and say I’d be Clary from the Mortal Instruments series.
8. What couldn’t you live without?
Simple. My wild imagination. If I didn’t daydream, I wouldn’t be able to get through the day. I live on my dreams. Without my imagination, or my dreams, I wouldn’t be. I’d be a fucking empty shell full of hopelessness. And that’s not fun.
9. What is your secret talent?
It’s still a secret to me.
10. Tell me about the last dream you remember having?
The last dream I remember is that I was in NYC with my family, or something, and we were in this townhouse... I only remember bits and pieces, but that’s that gist of it.
11. What are you craving right now?
Some steak. I could never be a vegetarian.
That, and my ipod. I want to listen to music right now >.<
12. What was the last song you fell in love with?
There is a Light That Never Goes Out, by the Smiths. I fucking love that song, you have no idea. It’s probably one of my all time favorite songs, if not my favorite.
That, and also both the scores to the movies How To Train Your Dragon and Inception. Both amazing scores that give me the goosebumps every time I listen to them.
13. Can you hula hoop?
Ha. Now there’s a funny story. I’ll go ahead and tell you:
So, me and a bunch of friends went down to our high school’s football field to play soccer. After, a rather painful, game of soccer we were just kinda walking around in the dark, wondering what to do. Then, we came across this rather large circle. It was probably just a wire, or something, and it had been connected by ductape. It was like a giant hula hoop! So, we all took turns attempting to hula hoop with it. Most of us, including myself, did it. But it was so big and heavy, that it ended up bruising our sides. But it was fun none the less.
So yes, I can hula hoop.
14. What do you like?
Things that make me happy.
15. What do you dislike?
Things that make me unhappy.
*smirk*
16. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
People don’t give me fucking advice... sorry to sound bitter, but it’s true. I fend for myself, and then give advice to others.
17. How and why did you start RECording?
I started RECording this summer. I remember the featured video, it was Gimik_Joe’s video about squares on tee-shirts. I came across it after reading an interview with Joe where he mentioned hitRECord, so I looked it up and found the creative outlet I’ve been looking for.
There’s really not much to it. Here I am now, a little over three months later, I believe.
“I’m so glad you found this.”
That’s a quote from my mom. I had been babbling about something on hitRECord, maybe the fall formal. And she that she was glad I found hitRECord. I am too. I think I’ll be on hitRECord till the day I die.
