Burning Hearts

Hi everyone,

Aristotle said that a friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies. HitRECord is a group of thousands of souls dwelling in a single body. We move like waves in a single ocean. And when a stone is thrown into our community, the ripples affect us all. I had never met Dan, and yet the outpouring of grief and love towards this valued member of HitRECord has moved me to want to do something to celebrate him.

A while ago, I bought a really cool gift on Ebay for my HitRECord penpals jordyn.myah, ashleewithani and LilacAmy11. They are (and sorry to give away what is inside your penpal carepackages guys!) heart shaped Chinese lanterns, or sky lanterns. Those ones that you light a small wick in the bottom and they float away into the air. When I first got them, I thought they would be a great gift for HitRECorders seeing as they are a)red and heart-shaped b) perfect for writing things on: a tiny story, a drawing, a poem, lyrics. The art can be sent up into the sky; the very act itself is beautiful to watch.

But since the news of Burning Dan’s tragic passing, I thought that these lanterns could have another purpose: little, written dedications to Dan and his memory. What I propose is this: if you want to get involved, go buy a Chinese lantern. They are super cheap, and come in a range of colours. You can even buy the heart shaped ones here on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&Item=160446778001&Category=26384&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26its%3DI%26otn%3D1
Write something to Dan. It could be your favourite Tiny Story, a poem, your favourite song lyrics, or just a note. You don’t have to share this if you don’t want to. RECord yourself lighting the lantern and its journey through the sky. Perhaps we could compile all the footage/photographs together and make a small video.

Joe said that he was sure Dan was looking down on us now, pouring hollowed out watermelons of love on us. Let’s return the favour and send him up some love and art.

I just also wanted to say that this tragic event, has shown me how involved and committed I am to this community, and how much I love all the members, even though I have never met any of you. Thank you all for bringing such a wonderful new light to my life, and for allowing me to discover art in so many different ways.
So much <3 to you all

Pamela
