The Sock Gnome [poem]

Have you ever shifted through your laundry bin,
to find a lonely sock that’s missing its twin?

You are left stumped, confused and scratching your head.
You search sofas, closets and under the bed.

“Where did my one sock go?” you think to yourself,
“It could not get far, without any help.”

Well, it did disappear but not on its own.
It was whisked away by the sneaky Sock Gnome.

Under the dryer, he lives, cozy and snug.
Hidden away from your eyes, like a small bug.

He waits in the shadows for just the right time.
While clothes are left sitting, he creeps up behind.

He snatches a sock, only one, not the pair.
And adds to his pile that builds up in his lair.

And with each new sock he creates something new;
A blanket, a curtain or even a shoe.

You cannot keep him out, not with key and lock.
There is only one way to save your lone sock.

The Gnome has no use for the dirty sock, there.
Too stinky and grimy, it fouls up his air.

Think twice before you take your socks off your feet,
to clean them all up at the end of the week.

For as you walk away with your feet so bare,
Just remember the Sock Gnome will soon be there.
